There is nothing inherently "out to destroy everyone else's fun" in their advice. An Int 18 character is not going to stand up to the BBEG alone with the rest of his party dead or dying. He will be getting out of there, not adding another notch to the BBEG's bedpost.

There is nothing wrong with playing your character intelligently. D&D is a team oriented game, however. So if you make no effort to be a team player, don't be surprised if you find yourself no longer part of the team.

YMMV :)

Icycool - Which part of getting out of "Dodge instead of letting the BBEG tie you down to his bed and having his way with you" can be considered being an ass?

No part of it. I was referring to the quote wherein KarinsDad states:

KarinsDad said:
Second, yes, one gamer does have the right to ruin a game if the game is purposely being ruined for him by the DM.

Sorry I was unclear. :D

What KarinsDad said (or what I interpreted) was to let the DM kill off the party instead of being heroic and trying to save the party (which is what my other character does on a regular basis; a Sorceror running at 4 Bearded Devils with a flaming sword in one hand to distract them from the Cleric who was getting the beat down of her life). I see nothing wrong with that.

This is a travesty....

Generally, I decide to allow or not allow classes COMPLETELY as they're written as opposed to twinking them.

I think there was another guy on this board a couple weeks back talking about the same DM (not many would count the soulknife's blade against his equipment cost I don't think), or was that you as well?

If you truly believe this, then I feel sorry for your fellow gamers. Immature though they may be.

Where do people come up with the stuff they do?

When did I state that my fellow gamers were immature? I actually have a fairly decent group at the moment.

As to your "holier than thou" attitude, you should try to keep an open mind. Sure, most campaigns and house rules are reasonable and most gamers play team oriented characters. It's only common sense to do so.

But, Caeleddin's DM sounds like a total ass and people like that rarely learn via common sense, they tend to only learn via the school of hard knocks.

C'est la guerre. ;)

Nail - I don't see a problem with psionics.
Really? Couldn't tell. :) :D

If you'd like, we can discuss the balance issues in psionics. That might be OT for this thread.....

In any case, I'm hoping you can give us an update about your first meeting with this group. It's the voyeur in me; besides, I wonder how our "advice" pans out. Can this DM get a TPK during the first meeting? Tune in next week.....

As for the "shocked and dismayed at the responses" comment: Hey, we're havin' some fun here. Leave us ne’er-do-wells and rabble-rousers alone!

So what we have here is a failure to communicate. And that's pretty much all my fault. The english language is apparently too complicated for me this week. ;)

I didn't mean to imply that your actual gaming group was immature. That was intended to say that if you followed your own advice, I'd feel sorry for the rest of your group, even if they were immature. It sounds like the worst of the advice was meant in jest, so I'll just withdraw that comment.

I'm not sure I think that I'm being "Holier than thou" by suggesting that he not behave like an ass, even when the DM is being one. Besides my advice was mostly cautionary. It sounds like his DM has been like this for a while. It's the old "Don't let an idiot drag you down to his level or he'll beat you with experience" warning. ;)

As far as "hard knocks" re-education, if Cael and the rest of his group are all friends, then perhaps a good natured butt-kicking is in order.

At any rate, if the comments were meant in jest, then just ignore what I said earlier. If not, *shakes finger* You should be ashamed of yourself for giving such poor advice. :p

This message has been brought to you by his Holiness, IcyCool. :D

Poor?

It's brilliant advice. Caeleddin is in a win win situation with it. Either his DM gets the message that removing PC healing from the game is a boneheaded move and will adjust, or the game will disintegrate and Caeleddin no longer has to put up with that crap. :D
