I think it's dumb for any class NOT to have profession as a class skill. How is it going to unbalance the game if Fighters can do something with their free time other than hit things?

I also have a gripe concerning background issues:

Well, my dad was a carpenter. He thought me and my brother as much as he could, but me being a fighter, I just couldn't hit a nail on the head. But my wizard brother though, look at him go!!!

:\

I always thought class skills should be dependent on both class and background. If you grew up in a sailing town, profession (sailor) is always a class skill no matter what classes in which you take levels. Call them background skills instead of class skills.

Carpenter is a Craft, not a Profession, so the fighter would have no problem there.

I do agree that it's silly that fighters (and barbarians) do not have profession as a class skill. Like UltimaGabe said, those sorts of basic skills should be class skills for everyone.

Well profession are more intellectual activity. I have a hard time conceiving that a Barbarian can learn how to be a civil engineer when he is not hunting for food. Same for the fighter they are more manual worker (craft).
