Fighter taking a few levels in Wilder... Worth it?

Hmm... Thats pretty cool then. But still, +1AC isn't that awesome a power really...

It would usually be +2 for you... Put two power points in and wild surge to get it up to 4. That's enough augmentation for a +2 bonus.

I'm starting to get worried about the fact that most Psionic Powers take a standard action to manifest, meaning one less round of dishing out damage (in most cases) per power I want to use. This could almost be more of a hindrance than a benefit :(

The only way around this that I can see is to take powers that either last a long time (1hr/lvl or more), or can be manifested instantaneously. Unfortunately most of the good powers don't have either of these criteria... Hmm.

Quite true. however, I think you'd find that 10 min/level powers can be used pretty reliably in everything except the "you're ambushed without warning while travelling" scenario. And even the 1 min/level powers can be used 30-50% of the time when you're on the offense. It's not hard to go from "I kick in the door" to "I manifest an augmented vigor, using wild surge.... then I kick in the door." Benefit: 15 temp hp for 4 minutes. Cost: 1 pp and a 10% chance of having to wait a round before kicking in the door.

Some of the swift powers are pretty darn nice too. I'm quite fond of empty mind, but grip of iron is a good one as well. (Though it's psywar only). And a lot of the low level powers can be manifested as swift actions if you can spend enough pps.

*Manifests Telekenetic Force, then Solicit Psicrystal, and set psicrystal to work cleaning up the mess with a mop and bucket*

What's really fun, though, is that all power points are available for all abilities (cuts down on paperwork), and you can still squeeze out a manifester level of 5 when using your Psion powers, as the Wild Surge doesn't specify that it must be used on an ability gained through Wilder.

Hold on a sec... Are you saying that by Wild Surging Vigor (by 2 levels) you gain a 2 PP augmentation for free? The way I understood it was, Wild Surge increases you caster level, letting you get Vigor for a longer time, and also lets you augment it to a higher degree if you so choose... I didn't realise it automatically augments it for you?

Wild Surge gives the enhancement for free, even being so courteous as to provide the PP for it, but it comes at the risk of being stunned and having the power fail.

Hey that IS pretty cool.. Makes me lean more towards Wilder in that case. I've just re-read over the rules and yeah it definately sounds like that is the case! Nice.

Its a neat, if risky ability. A wilder PC in my campaign with Surging Euphoria and the Combat Prescience and Precognition powers managed to outfight the fighter and psychic warrior at low levels if you gave him prep time. I'd definitely recommend those two insight bonuses to attack and damage for a fighter.

Don't forget that with Enervation comes the PP loss - 1 point per Wilder level - so that +1 manifester level and free augmenting has a 5% chance of costing you 2 PP at level 2!

Oh, wait - that's not very significant, is it?

I would agree and say its not so much a problem compared to having the power fail and being stunned. Its certainly an added detriment though. The key is to never roll poorly on your Psychic Enervation check :)
