Final Fantasy XI MMORPG on 10/28

CrusaderX

First Post
The FFXI North American launch is on October 28th. The game seems to be getting a good buzz, and unlike other MMORPGs, the launch should be fairly smooth since it's already been out in Japan for some time now.

Is anyone here planning on playing?

I played in the PS2 beta, myself. FFXI isn't really anything new within the framework of existing Graphical MUDs, but it is very well done all around and very pollished. Personaly I've got my pre-order slip in hand.

I heard there aren't going to be any North American servers and you are randomly dumped into a server, you can't choose which one you like. This makes it too hard to play with friends.

New servers or not is a hot topic right now, and I I'm not sure anyone knows yet.

ALL players are randomly dumped onto a server, but that's to even out server load. With worldpasses supporting 5 people each now it really shouldn't be too hard to get a group togeather, though it'll help a lot to have one player who's played import/beta start first since they know how to make a few hundred gil for the pass...

I pre ordered too. It doesnt look like it'll be revolutionary or anything but it seems to be getting good buzz. I am disappointed that my Gamespot/Babbages doesnt have it in stock today. Gotta wait one more day.

Of course if I wanted the new WWE game its in stores sigh.

I love the video /PC game industry release schedule. The "release" days usually mean it will 1) be in stores at a certain day, or 2) its shipped to stores or 3) its somewhere, someplace in the country, parts unknown. No other industry it seems is so frekin vague about the shipment of its product.

Destil- any advice on race class combos?

I would be more than willing to try the game, if I didn't have to pay the monthly fee. I understand why fees are necessary, but I just have problems paying 13 dollars a month in addition to a game I've already played. Besides which, online play has never really appealed to me... people are dumb, throw rocks.

Are you getting the PC version?

Otherwise, you do know that because of the beta they will be sending you a free PS2 Hard Drive and copy of the game, right? :)

I loved the beta and will be getting the PS2 version when it hits in January.

Best place to go for these kinds of questions. The best thing about the game is that you can play different classes with the same character. The only thing you can't change is your race. Some races are better at things like the Taru-Taru at spellcasting but you aren't limited to that. I liked playing a hume (human) because they are diverse and are good at all classes.
