Finessable reach weapon?

mhd said:
If i remember correctly, some of the real world rapiers were extraordinarily long. What D&D calls a rapier is more a light-weight cut&thrust sword.
But I'm not really sure whether this would qualify for reach, as it isn't really longer than the greatsword, which has the normal 5' reach...

Elven Mithral Megarapiers...
Right, Greatswords with reach would indeed be great.

Thanks all. My gaming library is quite sparse, and I wasn't sure if something like the Arms & Equipment Guide or Complete Warrior would have such a thing. I'll keep looking.

alex,

you should stop by and take a browse thru the diaglo library O' D&D. ;)

Other than the spiked chain, are there any finessable reach weapons (polearms preferred) out there? Thanks in advance!

You could try arguing that a Large Rapier has one, but I doubt it.

Wow, someone cast raise dead on one of my threads! :)

Thanks for the offer, David. I'll e-mail you privately about touring your collection, though I don't really need to research anything at the moment.

Well, firstly, a Medium creature can't finesse a Large rapier, and secondly, it's not a reach weapon anyway :)

-Hyp.

Then obviously you'd have trouble arguing it as finessable :)

If i remember, there's a Ribonweave weapon in Eberron or Races of Eberron that's 2H and finnessable, but not sure about reach.

No reach, but RoE has the Scorpion chain, a modified spiked chain. 1d6/19-20, I believe.

There's also the Elven courtblade in RotW. 1d10/18-20/2-handed, finesse. No reach, but that's easy to fix.

Chain Lash from Savage Species. 1d6 bludgeoning weapon which can be used either as a double weapon or a reach weapon (like spiked chain, it can hit adjacent foe). Though it is in Savage Species, it resembles real Japanese weapon called Manriki-Gusari and far more realistic weapon than most exotic weapons in the core rules.
