Finger Cut Off - How to get back ?

If I were the DM, I would have an NPC have a ritual of either regeneration, 'reattach limb', or 'meld metal to flesh'.. for a finger... probably level 5 just because. It would be higher levels for more invasive procedures.

Then have the NPC require special ingrediants or a minor quest. Maybe Trolls blood or a lost schema.

Okay I wil go with 3, it was actually 2 that I was looking for, going from left 2 right, but close.

Oh well, that is 3 index fingers isnt it.

I rolled just because I like the new feature - now when you roll it, there's a slightly higher chance of rolling a "2" ;-) (or 9. Or 4 and 7 if you flip the hands :D)

BTW! When you're rolling - note that the index and ring fingers are of almost (men) or exactly (women) same length!. It's a hormone thing, so warforged should have both of the same length, unless specifically sculpted. That's 4 in 10 chance of it being the right one!

Jump in Feet First

My character once lost both his feet in an unfortunate "run-in" with carnivorous sand. I had to go to my mysterious employer, who sent me to a powerful but little know healer. The healer was able to regrow them, but I then had to get him a magic item that he could use as the price of admission to a kind of exclusive high level magic item swap meet. It turns out that my employer held these events every year. Attendees were impressed with the magic item we had recovered. We had about a six month campaign of the party working for various dignitaries and powerful business people, gathering up items for them to bring to the next meet.

All of which has little to do with your finger situation, but it goes to show that amputation can be a major plot driver.

If there were an easy way to regrow fingers, cutting one off would not be used as a punishment. The point of maiming a thief is to warn all who ever come in contact with him that he is a thief; it won't work if people can undo it. You can wear gloves with that digit stuffed with cotton (and make a bluff check) to hide it. I would not apply any combat effects.

You can make an adventure out of it.

Your character has heard word of an ancient ritual that will regrow lost body parts. Of course, you have to find the ritual in a tome in a long-lost dungeon, filled with all sorts of reptilian creatures. As the character gets the ritual and casts it, he discovers the finger that grows back is that of a lizard! (Yes, I totally stole this from the Lizard in the Spider-Man comics.) Question is, does he discover this in time, or does he find out too late?

Alternately, automaton fake fingers can be cool too. Maybe give it a special ability.

Seems to me that having your finger cut off may sting a little. Especially is they use pliers and a spoon to do it. It may not be a permanent punishment, but it would definitely not be any fun.

4 Fingers is Freddie Kruger... right?

The way I'd recommend you do this is, use magic, pretty much any magic. Most healing in 4e is not in fact healing like OD&D. Its 'moral fortitude'... "Get out there and keep fighting!" says the Warlord.

Soo... Healing potions (maybe you need an expensive one?) or the cure spell from a cleric (that's rare actually). Is there a regeneration potion?

The obvious solution is a ritual. You'll have to homebrew one, but that's pretty trivial--just pick a level and cost based on what feels right. To my mind, this should be distinctly easier than raising the dead, so maybe level 5 or 6? UHF's argument that actual magic healing (particularly powerful magic healing) could work on its own is certainly plausible, but it seems less cool to me. With the ritual, you have a nice big adventure hook (have to recover the book of rituals that XYZ used to have, have to convince the high priest to help you by taking care of a problem for him, etc.) That's less true with "hey, you drank a paragon tier healing potion--you're all better!"

You could learn to live with it and just give people evil looks when they say 'Hey, can you five finger discount that for me?'?
