Fire Domain (or other elemental domains)

Does the clerical Fire Domain grant additional 'turning' abilities against Water (or rebuke fire elementals), or do these turning attempts deduct from the regular pool of turning attempts?

IMO the text in the domain ability seems to suggest additional turning ability.

My issue is that divine feats sometimes 'use' a turning attempt to produce different results. If the domain ability grants these as extra turning powers, can they be used to power the feats as well?

Anyone with some insight please fill me in on the particulars of these or where these issues are addressed completely.

Hmmm, I've always assumed the fire domain ability replaces (or at least can be used interchangeably with) the cleric's normal turn undead ability.

Now that I think about it, I'm not so sure.

I've always played it like they're extras used only for messing with Elementals.

Otherwise most of those domains are REALLY not worth it.

I don't know if I'd use them to power feats ... if you can, I'd expect to see a greater preponderance of Fire domain clerics.

Then there is the part 2 of my conundrum. Can these Turning/Rebuking abilities be used to power these divine feats? I have not seen anything that would suggest that they couldn't.

It certainly makes the domains with this type of extra Turning ability quite potent when used in combination with some of these Divine Feats.

Watch out for those priest who have Plant domain along with some elemental domain and a couple of these divine feats.

They are additional. See the text for the Extra Turning feat (PHB, p.94).

Most (if not all) divine feats are "powered" by uses of the character's ability to turn undead. So no, you cannot use elemental turning attempts.

That makes much more sense to me now. Thanks folks.

But it does give me ideas for a few feats that can be powered by the alternate turning ability. Specifically feats to grant resistances or possibly to create an effect like 'flaming burst' by channeling these elemental energies.

If elemental forces play a large role in your campaign, this certainly would be a good idea to differentiate clerics of the elements even more.

I think one of the expansion books (Races of Stone maybe?) already has some feats that are powered by Earth alternate turnings.
