Our druid just got 6th level spells, and that means fire seeds. I want to know if we are playing it right. Specifically the Holly Berry Bombs. From the SRD:
Holly Berry Bombs: The character turns up to eight holly berries into special bombs. The holly berries are usually placed by hand, being too light to make effective thrown weapons (they can be tossed only 5 feet). They burst into flame if the character is within 200 feet and speak a word of command. The berries instantly ignite, causing 1d8 points of fire damage +1 point per caster level to creatures and igniting any combustible materials within 5 feet. Creatures who successfully make Reflex saving throws take half damage.
Now, fire seeds last for 10min/level and has a casting time of 1action/see. So with 8 actions, the druid create 8 holly seeds. These last for 110 minutes or until used. Some time in the next hours or so, combat breaks out, and the druid drops all 8 holly seeds at the foot of some nasty guy (dropping items is a free action), moves back 20 feet or so (move-equivalent action), and sets of the seeds (standard action).
All well and good, now nasty guy takes 8d8+88 damage as does anyone else within 5'. Hmm, 8d8+88 sounds like a lot of damage for 11th level. Other than the barbarian it would kill anyone in the group. Of course, you get like 8 reflex saves to prevent half of d8+11 each. Still, seems much better than an empowered flame strike.
And speaking of empower, what will happen when he gets 8th level spells and can empower the fire seeds. The druid'll be 15th level at that time, and the spell will do (8d8+120)*1.5. That is a big hammer. Or would it be 8d8*1.5+120? I'm not sure. Still, that 8damage/level starts to add up.
Am I missing something?
