Fire Shield and Shadow Evoc

The spell says I take half damage from cold based attacks. Does this work if the creature succeeds at his save, does it work 20% of the time (or only protect 20% of the damage) or does it not work regardless of the will save?

Good question, I have a sorcerer myself and was wondering the same thing. There are numerous spells like Fire Shield, like Wind Wall, that get a bit confusing if you create them with Shadow Evocation of Shadow Conjuration. I hope someone replies with more to say than me

I think the damage-dealing effect for enemies that attack you is scaled down.
