D&D (2024) Firearms to be made a fixed part of the game, new Weapons Rules

I could argue every setting has an arquebus or hand cannon.

But a full on musket or pistol that could be loaded in a round , nah.

I men my main settings all have muskets, but the technology has just been invented and its wonky. You need to either be a gunsmith, be an artificer, or lug a gunsmith or artificer around to keep them working. So only people who can afford smith henchmen bother using muskets and pistols.

There goes any interest I had in Planescape.
We've known that they were planning it to be a Spelljammer-style slipcase for a while now. And apparently the page count has actually been bumped up to 96 pages for the gazetteer and adventure books, with a 64-page bestiary.

We'll have to wait and see if 5e Planescape will be good, or even "good enough", but they seem to have taken the criticism of Spelljammer to heart, at least to some degree - Spelljammer's biggest problem was page count (and too many pages eaten up by different ship models), and they're addressing that.

Weapons meanwhile have a new "Mastery" mechanic. Each weapon has a specific tag that lets it do some special thing, and the Fighter's going to be able to use two "Mastery" features at once on their weapon.

One example is "Graze" mastery, which causes the weapon to do a minimum of damage even on a miss.
probably not what you were looking for, but I like the idea of mastery mechanics, let's see how that goes. Muskets I am not interested in and I am not sure they exist in all settings either (not that you need to exclude them from the PHB for that reason)

Unrelated but apparently Planescape may end up being a repeat of Spelljammer. 3 book + screen slipcase and the books are gonna be 60ish pages.
that is what they said several months ago already (well, not the page count but we can figure that out from SJ).

My biggest problem with Spelljammer is that it wasn't really a good setting book. If I wanted to run the adventure that came in the box that's great, but as far as a setting goes? Not so great.

only partly true, its bigger, 2 of the books are 96 pages each and 3rd is 64 pages, but still has dmscreen.

That gives the page count around that of VRGtR roughly, plus you don't have a pile of spelljammer maps eating up space, so this should hopefully be more informative. Still would have preferred 300-350 pages.

Its a compromise I guess. Still will likely be grossly over costed.
