All the more painful that they are cancelled.. this is by far the best episode yet..

just reminds me why I don't mind working nights since every show I like ends up canceled.

It was very good. There are lots of good shows not being canceled, and I really hope this is one of those.

Great episode, well written and well acted; very clever.

Great episode (although I still like a couple other ones better). It was interesting seeing through River's eyes in the beginning. I wasn't fooled by River's plan, but that's probably because it reminded of a Heroes Unlimited session a long time ago where our DM pulled the same trick (if they're not inside the ship, look outside). But you have to give Joss and Tim credit for making such an interesting character based on something real and human, River's autism, instead of weird aliens stealing the show.

You just gotta love the little character bits they throw into each episode. Like when Jayne hears a commotion outside, pulls down a blanket revealing a stash of weapons, but he's just pulling it over him to go back to sleep. There was real emotion in the show, as they grappled with whether River is to stay or go, and her reaction. And a good, solid ending, defeating the bad guy in a very elegant way.

Firefly is on a streak of great episodes that easily matches Buffy or Angel at their best.

Jewel Staite (Kaylee) was awesome! She showed a great range of emotion in this ep; from the time she was delicately telling her story about the events concerning River, to flirting in the halls with Simon, to her terrifying encounter with Early. I think Kaylee is my favorite character on the show.

I couldn’t really enjoy the episode, though. The whole time I was watching, I kept thinking about it being cancelled. Sad.

bittersweet....

This is certainly a great stretch of eps. :)

Joss has done it again. You could tell he wrote and directed this one because the characters had such solid parts. The bounty hunter was much cooler than the commercials made him out to be. More Book "history" and a great insight into the crew as a whole.

I liked last weeks a bit more than this one but that is just relative at this point. If someone doesn't pick this show up there is really no justice out there. A solid and original sci-fi show like this should be able to find a home somewhere.

Honestly, I didn't go see the new Trek movie tonight because I knew I had a new ep of Firefly waiting for me on my TiVo. I just knew it would be better (and cheaper). *sigh*

"If wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak right now." LOL!

Firefly is a great show, and is just hitting its stride as a series, as the last two episodes have shown. It is a pity that Fox doesn't have more faith in it, and won't let it stay on at least for a full season. What are they going to show in its place? "That '70s Show" reruns?

Wonderful stuff! It's not my favorite episode, either -- probably "Out of Gas" wins that prize. But it had a few stellar moments:

* The utter creepiness of the bounty hunter clinging to the outside of the ship in empty space, peering in through a window.
* When sleeping Jayne hears a noise and stirs, and it cuts to the scene of him ripping away a blanket to reveal his collection of guns, and you think, "Aw yeah! Get ready for Jayne!", and then you see him wrapping the blanket around himself and turning over. Haw haw haw!
* When River tells the insane bounty hunter that she's melted into the ship. "Don't try to outcrazy me, little man," she's saying. "Maybe you got psychopath crazy, but I'm packing government secret project crazy!" The bounty hunter was obviously using his craziness as a tool to intimidate and control people, and the moment when River started using the same technique against him -- when he realizes that he's an amateur at the crazy game and has just lost control -- is perfect.

Here's hoping UPN picks the show up: there's a long way to go before they've finished exploring this verse.

Last week's was my favorite but the character development in this episode was top notch. So many great scenes and moments which others have already mentioned. The continuity is great too. Every single character on the show is interesting and becoming more layered. Truly, as far as the world of tv goes, this is a great injustice.

May Fox rot in the Nine Hells!

I'd say that this episode was average for the series (which is to say it's great compared to most of the crap out there).

I'm really beginning to like the actress playing Kaylee. After last episode's freak out during the firefight (Isn't it nice to see someone who doesn't turn into Rambo when handed a gun?) and this week's interaction with the bounty hunter, she's really showing her ability.

As for Jayne, did anyone else notice something in his sleeping scene? When Mal confronts him about how River got his gun, Jayne claims that he keeps all his weapons locked up. Yet, when he rolls over, you can see his guns are kept hanging on the wall. It didn't look to me like they were behind anything other than the blanket.

And, is it just me or did the bounty hunter's ship look a bit like Boba Fett's?

Not sure how I feel about Book's ominous appearance in River's telepathic vision (or was it a delusion?). I really like the character and I'd hate to think that it's all been an act.

Yummy.

Upon finishing it, the first thing I did was tell a friend how wonderful I thought it was. I became saddened when he did not have quite as high of an opinion as I did of the episode. Ah well, I felt it was wonderful. I wish River's particular brand of crazy made a little more logical sense to me, but that might make it less appealing.
