Another series from Joss Whedon...

Count me in. :)

Trailers have looked good. There has been some positive buzz as well. The Buffy/Angel mastermind I'm sure can do sci-fi and this gives him another playground to frolic in. I just hope Fox gives it time to blossom. :D

Oddly enough, I've only managed to see maybe two commercials for it all summer, so I haven't been able to get much of a pre-show good/bad feeling for it yet. Based on what I've read, however, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Besides, it's Joss Whedon. How can you go wrong?

I'll be there Friday night.

Let's just hope Fox is willing to stay with it...

The trailer I saw...

... featured one brief scene where somewhere at the controls of a starship was happily playing with two toy plastic dinosaurs...

If that doesn't get to the root of why I {we?} watch science fiction, I don't know what would.

Definitely count me in. If Joss can handle the tropes of scifi as cannily as he handled the stuff of both horror and coming of age fiction, the show will rock.

And for the record, I'm betting he can... for a few seasons, anyway.

Also, FD, why exactly wouldn't you watch a show featuring a prostitute as a character? Ever watch an episode of China Beach? Or Sweet Chastity {or the original, Nights of Cabiria??}. Just curious.

It would depend on the show. A show glorifying it is not my cup of tea. I find prostitution reprehensible.

Nope and nope- never heard of the latter.

Heh.

I like what I've seen in the commercials. I get the feeling, though, it may not catch on with enough people for a network to keep it on the schedule. Until SFX get cheaper than they are now, shows like this, which rely heavily on them, will have to do gangbuster ratings or die quickly.

I will watch "Firefly" because it has Joss Whedon's name on it. I want to see how he handles a space show. However, I'm still biting at the bit because FOX canned "Dark Angel" for this. I've seen the commercial once & it went by too fast to really peak my interest.
