Unfortunately, tho, Microsoft sets the relevant standards not W3. Since ninetysomething (or so) percent of the people around the net still use IE, it's what IE does, which is standard and which websites get optimized for. Sad, but true.

Well, that's a cynical way to see things. In Finland for example, Firefox has over 30% share. Computer savvy users in general don't use IE (I work on a computer hardware news site and IE is down below 50%). Sure, if you want a serious disadvantage compared to other websites about the same subject, go ahead and make it IE-only. It won't help you in the long run.
