First Batman Begins Poster!

A very moody, almost sombre one-page poster for the upcoming movie. I really like it. It's about time that they started using the most recognizable silhouette this side of Mickey Mouse.

As teasers go, this is very cool. Between this and the logo, this movie seems to have a very yellowish pallete to it, almost smog-like.

As an interesting sidenote, rumor (always him!) has it that Bruce Spencer (aka Mouth of Sauron in RotK:EE) has been approached about doing a smiling villain in a sequel to Batman Begins.

It'd sure save time on make-up effects... :)

They're making a movie about Alfred Hitchcock?

Seriously... I'm impressed.

Holy crap! That's awesome! I am getting more and more excited about this movie as I hear and see more about it.

I REALLY like this poster. It conjures forth the feeling of weariness and determination that is part of the Batman. Also, the background gives a somber mood -- it seems to suggest a city corrupted by pollution. The background suggests some sort of industrial hell. (Why do I get the feeling, that if it existed, Gotham City would be perhaps the most depressing large city in North America.)

The trailer also captures the mood of the film. I hope that this movie is truly great. The Batman is a very complex character, and I think is worthy of a good character study. (Ironically, Batman is one of the few superheroes that one can imagine existing -- given the determination, wealth, physical and intellectual abilities, and training of a remarkable person.)

"Gotham: Worst. City. Ever!" was a major theme of Frank Miller's Batman: Year One, which this project started as an adaptation of back when Darren Aronofsky was directing and co-writing the screenplay with Miller himself.

There are some obvious riffs on Miller's work (both Year One and The Dark Knight Returns) in this film, as evidenced by the trailer - the whole "something out there in the darkness" voice-over sounds very much like Miller's Batman describing the beginnings of his motivation, and young Bruce falling down a hole and recoiling from something he sees down there is directly lifted from Year One.

Which is an excellent, excellent thing. I liked Tim Burton's romantic, Gothic vision of the Batman and his mythos, but the execution left something to be desired; taking Miller as your model is unambiguously awesome, and I have high hopes they'll pull it off.

Really? I can't see Detroit as Gotham... :)
