Star Trek: Section 31

I love Section 31...Until everybody knew about it. Thanks DISCO! Review sounds exactly as expected.

Funny how my Black Friday discounted sub to P+ runs out as this movie and Season Finale of The Agency drops.

Now THERE'S a series worth watching. Started slow, but boy did it get going.

And, unlike here, the shocking twist really was shocking (and about a character you really started to care about).

There are no moral quagmires in the movie and none of the characters are heroes (well maybe Rachel Garrett, but only because of what we know about her outside this movie).

But yeah, likely not your cup of tea.
So yeah the opposite of star trek its a shame we dont have some other IP like say Game of Thrones or Watchmen where they could do that stuff without messing up the Star Trek IP

It was just not that interesting. Tying it back to Mirror Georgiou doesn't really help, either, it just makes the world feel slammer again.

I - against all realistic expectations - hoped for something that actually discusses either Section 31 or Mirror-Georgiou's moral and ethical "challenges" in earnest, especially in conjunction with Star Trek ideals, but it glosses mostly over this with a ragtag anti-heroes trying to save the day from great evil.
The emotional stakes despite the connection to Georgiou just aren't really there, either, the villain's motivation is unengaging, and there seems no character growth.

I'm not going to yuck anyone else's yum, so I will just say that the trailer for this looked like the least Star Trek thing I have ever seen.
I can’t even bring myself to watch the trailer. I enjoyed Discovery and Picard and love Strange New Worlds, but Section 31 is anathema to everything Star Trek stands for.

I mean, I would be more OK with it if it was like an illicit “shadow government” thing (Starfleet has always had corruption in its ranks), but the fact that it is an officially sanctioned part of Starfleet is just wrong.

I'd love to have been a fly on the wall when the film and concept were greenlighted.

These folks seem to have no idea what Trek fans want. It's like they are going out of their way to damage the IP.

Yeah it would work great as a secret romulan effort to subvert the federation. But the Amanda Waller style nonsense, of you gotta murder the murderers to win just doesnt work as presented.

The studio has been doing a narcississitic beat down of the fans doever since the burnham iteration didn't perform as expected. at one point they tried to kill the final season of lower decks and SNW. It seems like someone high up just hates what the fans like.
