Silly

You might think that I'm silly, but I just got a copy of the book, and I think it looks awesome.

I never played the original CoC, so for me this is the first introduction I had into the game. I think from what I have read so far that I am interested in getting into the game.

I think that I will also be taking a look at the supplements to the game put out by Chaosium. Pulp Cthulhu has definitely caught my eye.

If it wasn't for the d20 CoC, I probally would never have been turned on to the game.

I just bought mine about an hour ago. $60CDN. Will I ever play it? Ehh probably not but I love HPL-style evil goodness so if nothing else, it'll be an enjoyable read and probably an inspiration for my other projects. Just another sheep in Choronzon's flock I guess. :)

Re: D20 adapted to CoC (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Case in point, the hitpoint system. Right now, as I understand it, its D6 +/- Con bonus, per level. Its a fine system for D&D, mostly because we all grew up with it, but CoC never had such HP progression. A street thug would often have as many HPs as a mortal grand priest of some millienial cult.

The answer to that is simple: HP = Con.

The decent thing about d20 system is that you can throw away what you don't like. The lame part is that you have to know what's out there to deal with the situation.

There are several ways to deal with the HP thing. The simplist and most accurate would probably be HP=Con. This would be for those who want a fairly pure CoC game. But for the new audience that needs more handholding there are other alterantives:

Reduce the hp per level to d4 or the Con bonus.

Vitality and Wound points. Vitality goes up with level and can be used for most damage -- or certain types of fatigue and brusing damage. Wounds points = Con and damage from a critical hit goes to Wounds (don't double the roll though) -- or certain types of damage can be automatic Wounds, such as gunshots. 0 Wounds = either dying or death. Vitality comes back per hour per level, unless there is Wound damage. Wound damage comes back 1 per day unless good medical rolls are made.

Allow a "sniper" feat that does coupe de grace from a distance with rifles.

This is the draw of the d20 game, so many people have put out so many rules varient, that one can customize the game, despite it' inherent flaws. Oh, the other reason is beacuse in some places and some people, they won't come to the table unless it is "DND." The d20 system allows us to live with these fanatics.

There are a few other things you can do with HP.

HP = Con + BAB.

HP = Con + Fort save.

HP = Con + Toughness Feats.

Just a few suggestions.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is, Dream. Was it to make us feel like lamers for liking this book that we've seen and you haven't?

Silly! You sound like my housemate. ;)

In terms of not buying d20 Cthulhu beause it's stupid, people have to realize that d20 isn't everyone's cup of tea, regardless of how cool something is or isn't.

No matter how good the book actually is or isn't, this isn't the point. Rather it's the individual's dislike of the book.
