I mean there was that whole, "Everyone was cut off from one another for a century," business but I think she just meant it in the individual sense. Like, what happened in each cadet's life.

I am... not super thrilled. I enjoyed watching Discovery but I am worried about this repeating Discovery's mistakes and nothing in this really addresses that.

But also: have people in the shows actually referred to the theme songs before?

Interesting one is Julian bashir. Only a LT, suggests he leaves Starfleet, dies early, or maybe because of his genetics is forced to leave?

No she means it more literally than that.

In the future in which that show takes place, a cataclysmic event destroyed most of the dilithium in the galaxy (and the ships using it) all at once. The Federation and Starfleet were all but destroyed, and Earth shut itself away from contact for a century and more.

So, Starfleet Academy is a spaceship now. Makes sense, given that the Federation as a whole was space-based for quite awhile. I wonder whether San Francisco is its formal location now, or if it travels frequently between Federation worlds.
