fixing feint

I don't mean a feint *manoeuvre* is automatic in the game definition sense, but rather that combatants will be doing something that in real-world terms woudl be considered feinting at the same time as trying to strike. The game-definition feint is an attempt to misdirect while not trying to strike, and maintaining that stance for the full round.

I agree. Combat routinely involves feinting, dodging, parrying etc. It is when these activities become extraordinary - the main focus of a character's efforts - that some kind of mechanic is desirable in order to represent them.

The question should therefore be Who should be best at feinting? - and then designing a mechanic which supports this notion.

My preference is for swashbuckling Fighter-types and Rogue-types to be best at feinting because it supports an established archetype: feinting with a well-announced Ha!-Ha!.

@Hawken:
As I said, my view of what a feint manoeuvre involves is ALSO based on personal experience of sword-fighting. I am reasonably experienced at fighting with sabre and epeé. Six seconds is an incredibly long time when someone is trying to hit you with a pointy stick.

Since we disagree so fundamentally on the issue, it is probably better to part as friends rather than argue it to death and become enemies though.
