Fixing the Half-Orc, Revisited.

So your fix for the overpowered, as you say, dwarves, is to make the orc just as powerful?

So you now have two overly powerful races?

Not too good a fix if you ask me. If the problem with race balance is the dwarf, then fix the dwarf. Fiddle with the orc based on its own demerits.

(I happen to agree with you that dwarves get too many goodies, it's just a shoddy reason to change the orc)
IndyPendant's version (to which Arkhandus was commenting on) was too powerful, and i said that right in my original post. the bonus feats (thoughness, heavy lifting and the martial profs) were inappropriate.
Dwarves are too powerful for a LA +0 race, and i have infact re-vised them a lot for my campaign setting along with all the other races (and made a few edits for the half-orcs specifically when playing in FRCS [and using the core rule books, and none of my homebrews]).

Also, it may be worthwhile to note that the added natural armour bonus is up in the air as to its appropriateness for a LA +0 race (referring to my half-orc). Orcs and half-orcs shouldn't get a dex bonus (which would add to AC, ref saves, many skills, etc), but it seems to me that they would be a *little* bit harder to hit than you average human.

anyways, could we please move this post to the other and newer thread?? my link was only meant to be a refence, not a revisited debate. just quote the bits you want and refer to the post # please, and lets get into the new thread.

Heh. It's The Thread That Wouldn't Die! : )

--Anyways, I don't see how my version is overpowered. I've had it in my campaign ever since my original post above, and my players and I still both like it.

SRD Toughness is a total joke. One of the worst feats ever, unless you're planning a one-shot game with 1st-level chars.

SRD half-orcs aren't quite a joke--if you're playing The Big Dumb Brute. Otherwise, they're extremely weak. My half-orcs aren't over the top; I can think of a few specific builds where they would be the best choice--but even then it's arguable. And not just in comparison with dwarves either. *shrug* My changes look fine to me.

Somewhat ironically, this is a moot issue for me now, because my next PbP and OpenRPG campaigns will be set in AE, which looks to be a much smoother subsystem.

Playtest pending, of course! : )

that self-stacking toughness feat is rather sick... It essentially gives a bonus to con in regards to hit points. I wouldn't really be comfortable with it in my game.
