Flavorful Names That Make No Difference

Fighters fight, hit points are points that you subtract from when you are hit.
Fighters are also blacksmiths, soldiers, gladiators, guards, champions, etc.

If fighters fight, then wizards spell, doing damage and creating effects.

Which is a good reason the Fighter class isn't called Blacksmith.

If you want to play a dexy, tumbly fighter; you're already trying to play a half-rogue. Admiting it is the first step towards recovery.

QFT. People are deathly afraid of multiclassing. It's funny, in a sad and pitiful way.

Here's how I think 4e multiclassing will work:

1) Choose your base class. Here is where you get your starting bonuses - Defense bonuses, BAB bonuses, Magic bonuses, etc - and your starting feats/talents. So here's where a Fighter/Warlord and a Warlord/Fighter differ, and why that choice matters.
2) To multiclass, you just pick up a talent that you qualify for from any other class. You don't get the starting bonuses from any class you multiclass into, just the talent.

You can always just follow the usual rules for adjusting the class without multiclassing - swap some powers for others. So your dexy-fighter might give up some powerful offensive powers for some rogue-ish defensive powers, or some super-tough-diehard powers for some stabbity-stab rogue powers. DM fiat of course, but within just two classes this could work fine.
