Fleshing out a Temple of Kord

One of my players played a Barbarian/Cleric/Mighty Contender of Kord once. That was great. To get into the PrC, AND to establish a new church among a group of neutral orcs, the character strapped himself to a giant stone with chains and hung there ... either he broke the chains under his own power, or he starved to death.

He shattered the chains and founded his church on the site.

It included a wrestling pit headed by an altar which doubled as a meeting room, sauna, gym, pool, etc etc.

Think of a very big gym ... and all of the weightlifters and muscleheads worshiped the God Of Muscleheads. And not only did they pump iron and "get totally ripped", instead of a front desk they have a huge temple. That would be a temple of Kord.

And what on EARTH is a BARD doing heading it up? That's gotta be one ripped bard. Does his Inspire Competence ability involve the words: "Bro, bro ... I'll spot you. Totally."

p.s. My Cleric of Kord created potions in the form of wooden sticks that needed a strength check (DC = 10 + level of spell) to use. He figured you needed to prove your strength before receiving the blessings of Kord. The wizard hated me....

Spell-cabers.

I love it. I am so stealing this.

Cheers, Cmanos!

Well, earlier we had all asked for a Bard npc to help round out the party, so we got one. He hasn't been statted out yet. I figured he'd be part coach, part cheerleader, part referee, part sports trivia nut.

Kord promotes non-lethal methods to settling disputes. Worshipers perform feats of strength to honor their god, breaking chains and lifting heavy objects. His priests with the strength domain are well equiped to perform these. Kord does not like dragons, as evident by his dragonhide armor and dragon slaying sword. He has fathered many mortal offspring, think Zeus. I would have artwork depicting fighting dragons and his powerful sons and daughters.

Isn't it odd that a Chaotic faith like the Kordites is big on gyms and building your body? That requires some serious discipline.

Nah, not at all. Chaotic folks can have discipline, no problem. The difference is their discipline is for them, personally. Noone else.

And temples of Kord are all about improving your self. Fits perfectly. It's not about you improving you and everyone else, too. It's you and just you. Then you wrassle the other worshipers to see who has been doing better.

Check the website for the Duchy of Urnst for Living Greyhawk. They have done extensive work with Kord in their scenarios. Search online..you'll find it.
