Flip mats?

I love mine. Use it constantly. Portability + Erasability = WIN.

Sadly, I have a pre-paizo mat with Hex on one side and Square on the other. Some coffee got spilled on it and it started to separate at the edge. I went to go buy a replacement and Paizo doesn't offer a flip map with the hex grid. :(

Considering that our upcoming Kingmaker Adventure Path uses hexs a LOT... that's too bad. I'll see if I can't convince folks at work to put a hex grid on the back of an upcoming flip mat or two...

Do you just have the basic or have you picked up any others? (Woodlands looks pretty useful).

I've been thinking about purchasing a flip-mat or two. Has anyone here tried them? Thoughts?

Thanks.

They're badass. I own about 10 i think. They are very reusable too, you can just switch it around and add some different 3D terrain and it will look like a completely different map. Some of the dragon lair maps are especially cool looking.

For free-drawing of environments, I prefer my battlemat ... but I own every flip-mat released to date. Why?

(1) I like the detailed environments. They vary in usefulness and prettiness (for example, the recent Pathfinder Lodge is awesome, but the Mountain Pass isn't as hot), but in general they're great.

(2) I use them exclusively when I travel and game. Carrying a 10x8 folded flip-mat (or six) is pretty darn easy. I actually designed my event at GenCon last year with flip-mats in mind.

(3) In a pinch, I can randomly pick five or six of my flip-mats to jump-start my imaginations for an off-the-cuff game. "Hmmm, what sorts of encounters can tie together the Mountain Pass, the Market Square, the Waterfront Tavern, the Ship, and the Pathfinder Lodge?"

Hexes? Nobody said anything about hexes! Are they used for mapping terrain? The original Expert DnD boxed set used hexes for mapping terrain, not combat encounters, and it was the best.

I have two flip maps and they perform as promised, which is great because they promse alot. I have the grid only and woodlands maps both have proved useful as I use them along with my Tact-tiles and my chessex battle mat.
