Flying PC drops bricks from 400' up!

So how do you determine the damage in such a situation? I'm sure there must be a thread that discusses this, but I couldn't find it. What sort of attack roll is required, if any?

32'/sec/sec... that's a fast moving brick.

Hmmm....1d4+1? No...that doesn't sound right... :D

I believe that damage from falling or falling objects always caps with 10d6 (terminal velocity). Thus you would calculate the normal damage of such an item and add the 10d6. For a brick I would say 1d8 using the orc shotput from S&F as a guide.

If the brick weighs 1-5 lbs it would do 5d6 damage. If it was 6-10 lbs it would do 6d6 damage. 11-15 lbs 8d6.

See DMG pg 89.

I would say it is VERY hard to hit a target from 400 feet.

broadsides of barns

My next question exactly- what sort of attack roll is required? It's technically a missile attack, but you're not prof. with bricks and you don't have the usual problem of having to offset gravity's pull and it's effect on your aim. You pretty much just have to line up and drop, granted you can hover.

You see, I've got this Nioman PC who took improved flight, and in our last session, while the rest of the party followed the fighter who'd had his wisdom reduced to six in taking on the ghost that was keeping us from getting to the top floor, my character decided to try to get through the roof.

You can see where this is going, I'm sure.

Needless to say, the roof was broader than the broadside of a barn, and no attack roll was made, but the damage was a single d6, IIRC. I thought that much more would have been done, but rather than hash it out on the table I thought I'd put it up here for wiser (or at least more numerous) minds.

How many of you have taken advantage of this tactic after casting Fly? Especially against immobile targets.

Not me and never. If they're immobile, hell, just coup de grace 'em or set 'em on fire with a tindertwig! :D
