And by "strictly canon" you mean "strictly part of the implied setting in the rulebooks and easily tossed out." Right? :)

It's not the Great Wheel unless Thor is living on Mount Olympus.
Of course, Thor NEVER lived on Mount Olympus in the Great Wheel. Norse deities were in Ysgard, Mount Olympus was in Arborea.

Truly, they were pioneers.

If the drow didn't already have such extensive baggage, I'd love this option. However, with all of the spiders/Lolth/driders/Demonweb Pits stuff they'd have to jettison for this to work, I think you'd anger a lot more people than you'd make happy.

As they are now, they just don't read as 'Unseelie Court'.

Since this new edition is recreating so many things, maybe this is the perfect time to take the Dark Elves in a much needed new direction. Gone are the spiders and Llolth worship, now the drow can be real dark reflections of the other elves, especially the Eladrin. I think you've inspired me. I might be able to use drow again in this way.

The drow are now Fey and have a big tie to the Feywild. I have always (since 1st Ed) thought that elves and drow should have closer ties to faeries.

A good name should both be easy to pronounce, remember, and should conjure an image of what its naming. No, not every name needs to be an adjective-noun or a noun-adjective, but its sometimes appropriate.

With just a smidgen of background information, Feydark conjures images of the dark-underside of the Fey realm. There could have been other names, but this is serviceable.

Now, who else is psyched about running a Feywild campaign or at least a series of adventures? For more inspiration, I would check out the Lorwyn fluff from the M:TG site. Please, don't bring more arguments that D&D isn't a CCG! Just check out some of the articles:

I'm digging the Eladrin as an immoral caste of ruling Fey, whose motivations are alien by mortal standards. I'm digging the idea that Dreams are a valuable currency in the Feywild, stolen from sleeping giants by Pixies and Sprites. I'm digging the idea of a peaceful glade that is inviting in the daylight, but filled with dark spirits as the sun sets. Formorian castles carved from dark crystals and Eladrin cities that wink in and out of space. Mmm hmm.

Oh, I agree with you. I just see the drow having a larger role in this Feydark than mentioned.
