For those that drink, what's your poison of choice?

Negro Modelo is nice in the summer.
I find that, when dining on Mexican food, there is quite simply no subsitute for Mexican beer (Negro Modelo is an excellent choice). The two complement each other perfectly. Other beers just don't seem to go as well with Mexican food.

Mmmm Sangria...or just red wine is great too. I love wines...I'm ridiculous like that. For mixed drinks, I tend to like things with vodka. Maker's Mark is good too, but I don't do shots often, so it's been awhile since I've had it.

Best drink ever? Bacardi Breezers...but you can't get 'em in the states. :(

Gin & Tonic, made with Seagram's Tonic Water and either Tanqueray or bombay Sapphire gin. The pink tinted tonic water I had in Belize would be great, but it was a local brand.

I'm really partial to dark aged rums, but the stuff is too expensive for me to actually name a brand. If it's old and dark enough to cling to the lip of the glass as you rotate it then it's usually exquisite. However, at sometimes thousands of dollars a bottle I'm not sure if I'd want to say that's the only thing I'd could drink unless it came for free. :D

Thousands of dollars?!?
James, where in Florida are you? I grew up in Lauderdale, and good rum's not hard to find. Ya just gotta find the right stores, or catch a weekend plane to the islands to stock up.

-- Brugal Extra Viejo from the DR. Wonderful sipping rum. About $5 a bottle if you can get yourself to Puerto Plata. About $20 stateside.

-- Callwoods. Local distillery in the BVIs. Awesome stuff.

-- Mount Gay Extra Old. About $35 a bottle in the U.S., but way worth it.

I've always thought somebody should open a local distillery in Belle Glade or Clewiston. Carve out some of that Fanjul money into a good local liquor....

Good for malaria, as grandpa used to say....At least that was his excuse.
The quality of the tonic water IS crucial though!

You didn't hit that "aged" part of the rum equation, did you? Aged rum must be at least 3 years old to qualify, and you're really looking for something at least 10 years old just to make sure it has that clinging, thick aged rum quality. I've never seen any of them cheaper than somewhere distinctly over a hundred dollars, and the best of them I've only had by paying for a glass. It's like buying aged scotch, wine, or even tequila (which I'm also a sucker for).

Corona with Lime is nice, but for the rest of my life? Damn .. I drink too much to be able to stick to just one drink. Beers are nice, the finnish ones (KOFF, Lapin Kulta, Karhu) and estonian Saku, but sometimes it's hard to drink just beer if you've already been bar-hopping the previous night. In that case, to get the engine firing on all cylinders, you need some vodka, preferably with sprite or energy drink.

If you want to try an excellent drink, here's one: Jägermeister RedBull. Jäger is pretty horrible by itself, but those energy drink variants are excellent. But don't overdo it like I did - at a cruise I drank jäger redbulls whole night, and at around 4 am I noticed, when others were already sleeping / passed out that I just cant sleep. Lying on the bed, buzzing .. not fun.

More than 20 years will get you solidly into 3-digit prices, but I think you can find really good rum for a lot less than that.

Mount Gay Extra Old. 7 - 10 years. Under $40 in most U.S. cities.

Barbancourt Reserve du Domaine. 15 years. About $35.

Other options, check out Ed Hamilton's Ministry of Rum:

Edit: A friend of mine just sent me a link to a Forbes magazine piece from last week. Their wine guy wrote about aged rum and listed 10 "remarkable rums."

I'm something of a hackbottle alchemist - i make something good out of limited supplies, so my favorite drink varies...

At this point, its the UPSIDE DOWN HIGH-CARB BREAKFAST.

You take a highball glass, add a bit of ice, pour in 3 ozs of chilled vodka, a splash of energy drink to taste, and then fill the balance with pineapple soda.

Assuming you're drinking cheap vodka (Brita filter optional), its a cheap drink to fix.
