yes, but that's his character arc throughout that year (and as pointed out when he says the clone Doctor is what he used to be). He changes.

Even in the Pompeii episode, Donna's arc was to convince the Doctor to have some humanity by saving the seer's family.

As for Torchwood, I'm of the opinion that it was a good sci-fi tragedy (and I like my tragedies), but at the expense of character likeability. If the only character I like in the show is now Rhys, I'm not sure that's enough for me to watch a Season 4 (assuming that it gets produced).

Exactly! Donna's role in the series is to change the Doctor. Pompeii was episode 2; by episode 13 he's changed by her to the point that he's disgusted by his clone which is basically himself a couple of years ago.
