D&D 4E Former 4E doubter , I have high hopes now

I was originally a 4E supporter because I do think 3E needs a bit of an overhaul. I've jumped to a lot of conclusions based on the information they've released, most of them not positive, but I've decided that I'm not really qualified to comment on anything until I've actually seen the finished product and played it. Although I currently have many doubts and reservations, I do realize that what we've seen so far is just the tip of the iceburg, and its hard to say what lies under the water until you're actually up close. So for that reason, I'm going to just try and keep my mouth shut for the next few months. When it comes out, I'll pick it up and see what I think from there.

I thought you'd decided you wanted nothing to do with it?

Changing your mind already? Isn't that a bit indecisive?

No. However, if WotC released information on 4th edition that made it more interesting to me, I'd want that information. Once again, I'm trying to base my opinion of 4th on fact rather than prejudice.

Shame that you can't appreciate that and need to resort to a sarcastic threadcrap...

You missed his point.

Saying you want nothing to do with it implies that your decision is made, and you actually want nothing to do with it. Later stating that you want further information to see if you'll like it shows that you, in fact, want something to do with it: information to base your opinion on.

Actually, if you READ my post it said "at this point" I have no interest in 4th edition based upon what I HAVE READ (past tense) here and at the WotC site. I also wrote that I still come to EN World and go to WotC in the hope of getting info that salvages any shred of interest that I could have in it.

Get your facts straight please.

I'm sorry, but wasn't this you?

By your own admission, you were a doubter but no longer are. That implies that you've now decided it's not for you, without any doubt.

However, if that's not what you're saying, then I guess you are still a doubter, despite what you said in the post above. In which case, it doesn't seem to me that I was the one who was threadcrapping.

To Haffrung Helleyes, I have this to say: Welcome to the optimistic side of the fence. It's a much more pleasant place to spend time. :D

This is funny coming from the guy who "was a doubter, but I cast my doubt aside. At this point, I want nothing to do with 4th edition based on what I've read on EN World and at the WotC site."

That's like me saying "Hey, I want nothing to do with Samantha." and then asking how she's doing. By seeking information about her, I proved my "want nothing to do with" comment to be wrong, since I am seeking information on her (which is something, in case you weren't aware).

I commend your open-mindedness and ability to change your opinion when exposed to evidence.
I'm trying to figure out how someone like that ended up on the internet in the first place ;)

See, I don't get this opinion (and I'm not picking on you specifically cperkins - lots of people seem to share this mindset). 4E is different than 3E, sure, but it's not that different. It's a lot more similar to 3E than 3E was to 2E, or 1E was to OD&D. And yet, all those games "were D&D." And I think most of us played at least some of them, yes?

So even if you say "3.5E is really more my cup of tea, and I'm sticking with it", I can't see for the life of me the changes that warrant this kind of vehemence. It seems a bit hyperbolic.

As for me, I gave up on 3E years ago. So if 4E is actually good enough that I'll actually play it, it's an improvement! I'm pretty sure I'll like it too, because I like SWSE, ToB and Iron Heroes (and I'm currently trying to run a mashup of those and 3.5 to simulate 4E until it comes out).

The first time I even considered not buying 4th edition was when I found out that dragons get to make an extra breath weapon attack when brought below half hp. That wasn't the only thing, but it reinforced the impression that it's just a numbers game with no nod to suspension of disbelief.

But ... really, how could I resist? So of course I knew had to buy it.

But now, this business of rings not working for low level characters is once again turning me off.

And after all, the DM in my face-to-face game has stated that he will never switch to 4e. So if I buy it, it will probably be just for online play, and I don't forsee a shortage of 3.5 PBP games either.

Ladies and gents, can we please stop harping on each other? Discussion is fine, but we're getting on the edge of "badgering", here. Let's please let it drop.

Thanks.
