D&D 4E FR 4E SPOILER - Grand Histoy of the Realms info

What happened with Helm was this... (My own comments in parenthese)

Siamorphe quarreled with Try as they took different sides in a clash between Tethyr and Calimsan. She removed herself from the House of the Triad and joined Sune's court in Brightwater.

Try sent Helm to plead his case with Sune and she suggested a marriage between Tyr and Tymora to set the celestial planes in balance again. (Pleads what case? Was Siamorphe's presence that vital in the House of the Triad that they needed her back?)

Helm conveys Sune's suggestion to Try and begins to chaperone a chaste courtship between the two.

Strange and fateful misunderstandings lead to the accusation that Helm has stolen Tymora's heart while conveying the gifts and sentiments of Try. A strict interpretation of his own ideals forces Tyr to challenge Helm, and Helm is obliged by his own beliefs to meet the challenge.

They do battle and Tyr kills Helm before coming to his senses. Heartbroken (Why would she be heartbroken? Did she love Helm? Were they good friends?), Tymora accompanies Tyr back to the House of the Triad. Though it can't be proved, the gods sense Cyric's hand in Helm's death. (I would assume that he was orchestrating the misunderstandings that led to the challenge)

As a side note, Ilmater removes his domain to from the House of the Triad to Brightwater, at Sune's invitation. (Sune seems to be consolidating ALOT of power and allies lately here...)

Ok then...

Clearly whoever in charge of FR now does one of 2 things.

Spends way too much time watching the Soap Opera Channel.

Spends way too much time watching Telenovellas on Univision.

As it stands now,

FR is about to loose a 20 Year loyal fan & customer.

(Why do they always make the gods act like Int 4 Wis -15 Cha 2).

To me the whole things very Wagnerian - maybe we can look forward to a FR opera!

Anything that makes the deities less of "your ex-adventuring buddies who hit max level" to grander, more remote beings gets my approval.

Both, and partake in something highly illegal. ;)

Wait till Tyr and Tymora find out they're siblings in the 5e FR.

Other things that will happen:

Corellon's other daughter will return from boarding school, having developed nicely, and Solonor and Rillifane will both start hitting on her, playing increasingly nasty pranks on each other, while said daughter has a secret lesbian relationship with Sehanine.

Chauntea dumps Lathander because he's too fickle, and to pay her back, he has sex with every single female deity in the Faerûnian pantheon (including Talona, Beshaba, Shar, and so the others). Just as Chauntea tells him he wants him back, half a dozen knocked-up goddesses sue him for alimonies, and Tyr, ever the envious husband, chases Lathander around the room for having an affair with Tymora, who tells Tyr that it's his fault for neglecting her sitting all day in Divine Court.

What about trying other game worlds? :p

But seriously, fighting over girls isn't exactly a move toward becoming grander, more remote beings. I'd have thought that with that omniscience thing they wouldn't kill each other over stupid misunderstandings.

Oh, and Cyric really should be a chick. All those schemers in those soap operas are chicks. (If you want to know why I know that: My grandmother loves those shows and watches soap operas/telenovelas for something like 3 hours a day. And even seeing like 10 minutes twice a week or so makes you a master of those plots.)

Come on boys and girls. How do you think they're going to explain discarding memorized spells and the vancian thing for 4th ed? Makes perfect sense something like this would happen.

Just don't. The world has wizards and other spellcasters, and they cast spells. The machanic for casting spells should not change the feel of the setting.

I could see doing Forgotten Realms with L5R or WoD rules, with GURPS, Shadowrun or whatever. The way wizards/warriors work won't change the fact that Country X is ruled by wizards clad in crimson.

They could have made the 4e FRCS as a final product and then introduced a new Vanilla Fantasy World (or taken up GreyHawk again) where they can go crazy with all new shiny classes and started writing novels for it.
No! They can :]:]:]:] all over your Forgotten Realms all they want, but they should leave my Greyhawk alone!

;)

Anyway, I finally posted that poll I threated to create. Don't let those other guys win! :)

Apparently, they can indeed. And Forgotten becomes ever more appropriate. Hooray for the Pathfinder Chronicles.

Isn't that what they've been doing the last couple of decades?

Already voted there. I can't vote more than once. Well, I could, but I'm no cheater.

And its working quite well for the fans. Not so much for WotC though since they're not making any money off of it.

Sam

Seems that fans of the good old Realms need to do the same: Ignore Wizards and do their own.

It's quite likely that I'll spend a lot less for 4e than for 3e (at least concerning Wizards products), since I'll pretty much ignore the whole FR line, doing my own FR if I'm not running Pathfinder.
