FR Deity Question

OK, a bit more about the character - be forewarned it's a little odd. This is an experimental character made with some new rules variants to see how they work with our homebrews before deciding whether or not to incorporate them into our standard setting.

First off, it is a gestalt character - a Psimonk (Psion/Monk)
It's an Eberron character race - a changeling

It is a Psychokineticist, and may eventually try moving towards taking the Shifter PrC... depending on whether or not he works well enough to last that long.

I would classify his function as a scout - moves ahead using swift spead and uses abilities to poke around enemy camps before returning to relate information to his comrades and aid in planning strategies. His powers are mostly means of distraction (Control Object), obtaining small hard to reach items (Far Hand), and long range damage to complement his close range monk combat skills (Energy Ray). Where is powers go from there will be determined by what is necessary.

Savras or the Red Knight might work well. He sees his powers as tools, and thinks the same way of others abilities (magic, swords, lockpicks). Some of the design influences to his character are later season versions of Tuvok or Odo, for those familiar with those characters, after experiences have somewhat mellowed their harder edges, and yet remaining firmly entrenched in reasoning, planning, and so forth. He sees himself as both upholding the law on the one hand, and ensuring the good of the people on the other hand, not going to the extent of Inspector Javert in upholding the law, because he ceases to keep in mind the good of the people, and not going the way of Robin Hood because of his lack of respect for the law. I don't know if that helps, and it got more into alignment type issues than I was thinking it would. But it should allow for more accurate consideration of what deity or deities he might revere.

LG seems a poor fit indeed for Shar or Ilsensine, despite the mentalist slant of these two deities. Would you want to worship a merciless, scheming, eeeevil deity if you were a paragon of virtue?

I agree with Henry that choice of patron deity is more about outlook than class. You've got an interesting character here: On the one hand, he's a changeling sneaky-type, but on the other hand he's got a strong sense of justice and good. I might consider Tyr, actually; if this guy's a careful, considered sort with a strong sense of law and justice, then that might be a good fit. Otherwise, the Red Knight or Savras are excellent choices!

Based on what I bolded in your quote above, I'd consider Tyr or Ilmater as possibilities.

As others, I agree with Henry that class shouldn't be the only consideration when determining a deity (or sometimes at all!). In this case, I think the character's personality and background would play a much bigger role.

I think that the old "deity for each class" fallacy can lead to suboptimal choices - especially when you have a pantheon available to you that's as rich and varied as that found in the Forgotten Realms.

Thanks for all the good input! I think I'll go with the Red Knight, he seems to be the best fit.

On a random tangent, I just had a rather humorous thought... if his discipline were Telepathy rather than Psychokinesis, he could try playing big games of "Psimonk Psays" with his foes...

Red Knight is a she -- see Powers & Pantheons and Ed Greenwood's candlekeep.com posts for lore.

And how about Auppenser?

Thanks for the reminder about the RK - I actually knew that, I just got in a hurry and was sloppy with pronouns - sorry, mea culpa.

Auppenser looks good so far, but I hesitate to say anything one way or another due to the fact that I know next to nothing about (he/she/it) - a name, an alignment, some Domains, but there's a whole lot that's not really known... maybe when some of the holes have been filled in.
