The French are about the only country to do serious studies of them.

Not really. The US had Project Bluebook, which ran for nearly twenty years, and as far as I know the results are open for public reading through the Freedom of Information act.

Yep, and they came to pretty much the same conclusions... about 25% unexplained and no real proof or disproof of extra-terrestrial life. I think its funny that people still flock to Area 51, it been revealed that that was a test site in the 50 - 80's and that the cover-ups were to keep classified military projects under control. Oh well, consipracy nuts abound, I mean everyone knows that there were three gunmen and that we landed on a soudstage instead of the moon.... :/

No no no...it was a three-headed gunmen and we landed a soundstage on the moon.

Ain't people just wonderful!!!;)

Far as it goes, UFO sitings have no real chance of actually being extraterrestrial. The technology capable of transporting anything of an appreciable size over interstellar distances would render the things people claim to see both unnecessary and obscelesent.

Area 51, well it's hasn't really been active with the good stuff for some time. Once word became widespread enough in foreign intelligence services and began to percolate into knowledge here in the States they moved all the new experimental stuff. From what I've heard now they test it from somewhere on the Northwestern coast on the Pacific and fly out over the sea away from shipping lanes to avoid all the prying eyes and cameras you get over land.

Well coverups are pretty much par for the course, but it was absolutely stupid the bungling of their coverups during the Cold War years. The foreign organizations were just clued in to look closer and only the ignorance of people in general kept the UFO crowds going.

;)Everybody knows that the gnoll gunman was just a decoy, he was really shot from the storm sewer grate up the street. And all those landers and sattelites lost around Mars were shot down by their Orbital Defense System;)

This is a hard claim to support, given that we don't know what the technology is like.

Look at many sci-fi conventions for FTL travel, for instance: you have to be away from a gravity well, hyperspace, etc- many of them imply that a secondary system would be necessary to actually go down to a planet.

But that would imply the existence of a "mothership". With the US and the Russians monitoring near-earth space so closely (looking for each other's re-entry vehicles) and astronomers covering anything further out, I think we would have seen evidence of such a ship already.

Has anyone gotten the website to load yet? It's been a few days now. I know the post above was jokingly referring to the US blocking the website, but now my mind is wandering...
