Free RPG Day is Saturday!

IDoes anyone know how one might go about getting it? I'm hoping WotC will offer it as a PDF download on their site.

They did last year, in August. I would expect the same this year.

Anybody else grab the Castles & Crusades or Dragon Warriors freebies? I'd seen C&C plenty over the past few years, but it looks like the rehash they're doing this Summer has organized the rules a bit more to my liking. Dragon Warriors seems very early-Runequest/Palladium. Me likey a lot. Anybody played Dragon Warriors yet? Any feedback?

I played Dragon Warriors recently. One of the players in my group ran a game.

It seems "old-schooly", if I may say so. It was fun, maybe lacking a little in the tactical and mechanical depth I personally prefer, but it was fun to play. The adventure we played was pretty rail-roady, but we had a lot of fun role-playing a Warlock and a Mystic as the noble hero and his mystic advisor.

Thanks! We supplied the kits to the UK shops, and there was only a limited supply--so we always like feedback about which shops actually did something good with them, and which didn't . . . .

The nearest stores to me were all three hours away and in cities I never go to, ever, so I didn't go anywhere since by the time I spent money on gas, food and buying something at the store it would have been too much for the budget, plus spending six hours on the road in California on Saturday is ew.

So I stayed home and ordered some stuff from Noble Knight I'd been wanting to get eventually anyway and went for the Q-Workshop die that was the thing I'd really been wanting anyway(Especially once I found out it was purple. I love purple.). They were out of the Chessex one by the time I got around to ordering, though that did I suppose save me 15 bucks not buying stuff to qualify for it as well. Maybe if it shows up on eBay I can get it.

I have a minor dice addiction. (929 and counting, and guess what half of my purchase to meet the 15 buck minimum was. Yeah, more dice. I can stop whenever I want, really.)

Neither of the stores in my area really participated. The employee I spoke to in the major store (I say major because they have several locations in the central Indiana area) claimed to not even have heard of Free RPG Day. The other store had heard of it and was running events, but weren't giving out free stuff to the general public (at least, not if you didn't participate in the events, for which I had no time this weekend).

Oh well.

I stopped by Dragon's Den in Poughkeepsie NY a little later in the day -around 4:30pm. They still had a big stack of the Eberron mod, as well as a few copies of the Bonus Bestiary. I grabbed those (could have grabbed five of each, for all they cared - everything was just sitting on a table), as well as the Goodman flip-book, the Rogue Trader book, and the Paranoia mini-book. (Alas, no dice were left.) It's always interesting to take a gander at other systems.

I didn't buy any gaming stuff, but did buy the new NCC-1701-D model ($50!) that just came out. My inner 11-year-old was very happy to find it.

Unfortunately neither of the LGS's in Cape Town took part even though the local comic shops seem to have no problem organising the Free Comic Book day stuff...

I picked up and actually ran the Castles and Crusades quickstart booklet on Saturday. Every Saturday for the last 10 months, I have been running a 3.5 campaign in the basement of my FLGS. This Saturday, two of the players couldn't make it and we did not have copies of the missing player's character sheets. I have owned the C&C players handbook for around 2 years now but I could never find any one that wanted to play it so I suggested that we take advantage of Free RPG day and actually run one of the free games. I recommended Castles and Crusades and the group agreed and away we went. The four players rolled up characters while I read the short adventure at the back of the booklet and we were up and running in around 20 minutes.

It went pretty well and we all had a good time but most the group still preferred 3.5. However, my friend Kevin was very impressed with the system and he is going to go out and buy the C&C player's handbook.

I also picked up the Paranoia and Paizo Pathfinder booklets as well.

I had a strange experience at my LGS in Austin. There were some people gaming, and others sitting around jawing, but few people seemed to be browsing around. I got there about 1.5 hours after it had supposedly started and almost all the free stuff was gone, though it was "limit one per customer". I was interested in the WOTC offering just to score a free dungeon tile... I didn't see any. I was surprised that they were all gone that fast.

I did get the Rogue Trader thing, though I'm not a tenth as interested in it as I am in Dark Heresy.
