The Help action isn't effective if an ally isn't present when you're interacting with the NPC (obviously), so the spell is helpful in such a situation. As well, there is no guarantee that an ally can Help, depending on the situation. When I DM, it's not enough to just say "I help" to confer advantage. What you're doing must be reasonably spelled out and actually help in the fiction.
