I expect a lot of "No!" for this one.

It'd take over two years if you leveled once a month for most normal D&D games.

The campaigns that can last two years or longer generally have a high re-start rate or a very slow advancement rate (or both).

It's a gaping flaw in the class/level system.

FFZ is attempting to address this by only needing a year! :)

Yes, and it suxxord. The last 3rd of AoW was not much fun, but my players wanted to finish it. It got to the point where I needed to condense the last 1.5 adventures into one night, just to get it over with.

You too, huh? After the party in Prince of Redhand my interest flatlined as I realized that there was only dungeon bashing (and freaking dull dungeon bashing at that) ahead of me. I chopped out well over 50% of the module from that point on. Still made it freaking boring.

In 17+ years, and four editions, I have yet to accomplish either of these. Am I alone in this? Tell me your stories of glory or woe.

Haven't done it yet, but I decided with the release of 4E that I was going to try. It's not going to be contiguous - I'm doing it as a series of plot arcs, with breaks for other people to take over DMing for a while so I don't burn out - but I do ultimately intend to take my PCs all the way from 1 to 30. Currently they're 9th.

Never.

Still hoping 4e will be the edition that doesn't break down the game (for my group) at higher levels. So far, it's looking promising.

Voted "Yes, I ran it" since you specified 'core level range' and I've run 1e with the highest level PC getting to 117th level and Lesser God status (Upper_Krust's PC Thrin) and several others into high double digits. That was pretty glorious.

But I've never run a game where I announced "OK, your PC has reached maximum level".

nearly

from 1st to 27th in OD&D. Just dabbling with the master sets when it all ended

lots of kingdom ruling and mass battles making good use of companion set stuff.

Redsand Thickstone

My Dwarven Fighter/Cleric in 1st Edition, Redsand Thickstone, made it to maximum level in both classes and then, due to an amazingly well worded wish and a flexible DM, went beyond to reach something like 15/20 I believe. Originally I developed the character as the partner of a friend of mine who had an Elven Fighter/Magic-User and we would alternate DMing. Then later on both characters were excepted into a larger campaign that I occaisionally helped DM. In those later adventures, Thickstone and his Elven pal were often off on some other quest or stayed back at the group's fortress as the rest of the PCs went to their mission.

I love that character.

Sir Alexander Dane: Could they be the miners?
Fred Kwan: Sure, they're like three years old.
Sir Alexander Dane: MINERS, not MINORS.
Fred Kwan: You lost me.
