Future d20

ooh... how about CJ Cherryh's books... oh nevermind... I guess that is already taken care of by Traveller T20...

LUG released a Dune RPG at the GenCon just before they went under. A few copies are known to exist.

And for the life of me, I don't know what I was thinking when I was at GenCon and didn't buy one. Heck, I could have bought a dozen. I've seen those go for $80 or better on eBay.

You mean like T20: The Traveller's Handbook?

Heh.... I think not. I meant more along the lines of Fuzion (far superior rules for futuristic settings compared to d20).

d20 still rules the fantasy genre, though.

Uh, that's good for running games based on the 50's idea of science fiction, and I would argue it doesn't even do a very good job of that, since most of the classes are broken.

I think most people like stuff like computers that aren't the size of warehouses, cybernetics, futuristic weapons (including amazing things like laser gun sights), which are things that T20 doesn't really offer

Well, this could be a chance for DnD psionics to shine.

Opps, that just means they'll water them down again. They might even through psi combat back into d20 Modern
shudder.

I am not fond of d20 modern- I was hoping for something better could be done with a d20 future.
Name 20 things you're not fond of d20 Modern, and please leave out the FX options.

If anything "d20 Future" will be the FX option of futuristic elements.

Err.. why 20 things?

There have been enough threads devoted to the debate over d20 modern.. I am a bit hesistant in fully discussing the matter in this thread.

In summary of what I don't like: bland base classes, advanced classes, wealth system, action point system, the feat section, the vehicle combat rules, and the introduction of the FX options(i.e. what level you can get the most simple of powers that are useless at that level).

There is seven for you- I hope that satisfies your demands.

On-topic: It could be interesting. I'd like to see how they handle a 'generic' sort of scifi, and if they can get enough 'generic' flavour to build anything futuristic. However, D&D has its own flavour and nobody is claiming that it can handle any kind of fantasy, so I suspect d20Future will have its own 'things done best, things done not so well' feel. F'rex, I don't like the way Modern handles computer hacking (too simple). Perhaps there will be a better, more 'Uplink', way in d20Future. Then again, perhaps they'll just thow in a Matrix style campaign where everyone's in VR and it works exactly the same as the normal rules. I don't know.

One thing that would be good is the application of skills to multiple areas. For example, if I have high ranks in Hide, can I park my spaceship on an asteroid to avoid detection? Can I encrypt data on a network so nobody can find it? Or will I need new skills?

Oh - and will I be able to play Doom with these rules?

More on-topic, I'd like to be able to play in my own SF universe, which is a strange mixture of hard scifi, heroism, and a massive alien holy war where the deities are very real. Will I be able to make an attack run on a nircuti-class organic dreadnaught, fight off hundreds of 'ron with only my trusty gunblade, hack into a Magnus datacore, and keep the secrets of the Guild by messing with the memories of any witnesses? Boy, I hope so. But I have my doubts, because 'generic' all too often isn't.
