Futuristic Wuxia in the media

Does anyone know if there have been movies, anime, manga/comics or novels that wuxia set in the future? Like take all the traditional themes, mood and look of wuxia films and put them in the future. Nothing like Matrix but more like Hidden Tiger, Crouching Dragon or Jet Li's Hero set in a futuristic world.

If you stretch your definition widely enough, most of the Japanese "Tokusatsu" genre probably qualifies.

That said, it can be hard to find futuristic examples of a genre that is practically defined by being set in ancient China...

If I had to name a single story that would probably qualify, it would probably be the Battle Angel Alita (AKA Gunnm) manga. If nothing else, it probably meets the minimum martial artist quotient to be called wuxia.

I'd agree. It's not quite so wuxia in most of the original story arc, but when you get to the "Last Order" portion of things, it become almost pure Wuxia.

Parts of Vampire Hunter D might qualify as well. Since a lot of the characters tend to have specific fighting styles/powers, that may fit (depending on the story).

Dragon Ball in it's various incarnations IS pretty much the definition of Wuxia. Especially when you consider that Goku is the Monkey King from "Journey to the West".

I'll try and think of some others.

It's definitely not Wuxia, but there was that ridiculous Hong Kong adaptation of The Story of Ricky, best known for it's gory barehanded Head Smash scene.

Most of the Wuxia genre doesn't go beyond the 19th century. Though I guess that some of the Once Upon A Time In China series might happen in the early 20th century.

There was Dragon Tiger Gate which I guess you could consider Wuxia, which took place in the Modern Day. There might some Manhua series written by some Hong Kong writers, that might be Wuxia and Sci-fi, but I'm only familiar with movies.
