FYI: Modern Dispatch changes after issue #100

Not sure where to put this, I don't think it's properly a press release since it involves many, many different companies who will contribute and I think the news will be of interest to folks in this forum, so I am posting it here.

Soon the Modern Dispatch will reach issue #100. This will be a special issue in which all four Modern Dispatch publishers will contribute. Issue #100 will be a 100 adventure modern hooks, each publisher penning 25.

With this milestone, the Modern Dispatch will undergo a number of significant changes.

First, the frequency of issues is going to change. The Modern Dispatch will no longer be released on a fixed weekly schedule, but rather released as we complete them. This will allow us flexibly and relieve some of the stress of having to complete issues by a certain deadline. However, we will maintain a pace of no less than 1 and no more than 4 issues a month.

Second, to accommodate the above change, we will be we selling subscriptions based on number of issues rather than for a fixed time period. So instead of selling 3 month subscriptions we will be selling 10 issue subscriptions.

Third, we will open up the content of the Dispatch to all things modern, not just adventure focused martial.

Lastly, the contributing publishers are changing. Some publishers are leaving (Adamant, Ronin Arts) and some new ones are coming aboard. RPGObjects will be the main publisher, releasing one issue a month with other publishers contributing issues periodically as well. Some of the new publishers committing to do Dispatch issues include: Misfit Studios, Swords Edge Publishing, Steampower Publishing, Blue Devil Games, and Reality Deviants, and possibly more. 12 to Midnight will continue to contribute as well.

We at RPGObjects are looking forward to working with the new publishers and hope d20 modern fans will enjoy the new Modern Dispatch.

That's a bummer. I enjoyed everone's Dispatch article.

Very cool.

I dig it.

I always hoped that Blue Devil Games would join up with Dispatch. Good stuff.

I'm sure what the statement about "adventure material" means. The Dispatch articles have been everything from feat collections, to new equipment, to rule variants, to new organizations, to new locations, to ship designs, to new character classes, to full blown adventures. If there is something else to publish that doesn't fall in to these catagories... I'm hard pressed to imagine what it is. So bring it on!

Can you offer a yearly subscription for convenience? Automatic renewal?

I was a fan of adventure material :(

There will still be plenty of adventure material. It will still probably be the main focus of RPGObjects issues, but will be doing issues for all things d20 modern. Lately we've been doing that anyways, so it's not really a big change.

Well, that's good news to hear.

I already have some adventure material in the can for B&Vigilance and some on the way for my futuristic Prometheus Rising setting. I'd also like to expand on my Darwin's World GenCon adventure in the dispatch.

What we mean when we say not exclusively adventure material is something like this: I recently did a mystic book for B&Vigilance. It's about half crunch, with rules on superheroic sorcerers and such.

But it's also about half campaign models, loaded with NPCs and hooks. In the past, we might have just released that as a small product. Removing the "adventures only" restriction means it can go in the dispatch.

It also means we can use the dispatch as a testing ground for mechanics that might see life in sourcebooks later.
