[Game a Day 15] Twilight 2000, First Edition

Never played T2K but we used the rules in it to supplement out Dark Consperacy games. The game was vaguelly like the Twilight Nightmares that was mentioned above but set in a civilian context. We really enjoyed that game.

I have very fond memories of the game, and have played through 3
pretty expansive campaigns of it, (2 European Theatre, 1 Middle East).
Funny thing is I have had the worse stat luck when rolling T2k characters. No physicality and all skills.

1st Character, (and favorite) was SGT Lance Burkelson, who if memory serves correctly was around 42 years of age, and quickly became the fixer of the group. Many an encounter happened as I attempted to jury rig the vehicle while the more combat worthy characters tried holding off the Russian Army. Unlike Hellhound we did not abandon our vehicles :).

I remember the sniper rules being deadly in the game, as you always chose the head.

T2K 2.0 and 2.2 are the versions that worked with Dark Conspiracy. I'm not as much of a fan of the system in those games, and they certainly change the feel of T2K significantly when you play with them.

That said, they are still cool, and will appear later in my game a day posts (along with Dark Conspiracy)

Yeah, some of the rules you described did seem a bit foreign to me. In Dark conspiracy you could have good skills and stats at the beginning and the older you were the better you got. I found it silly that I would be playing my base character and all of his associates were in their 40s. i would love to get a hold of those rules again because I have yet to find a character creation system I liked as much as that.

I must admit that when my current game group plays modern d20 they no longer invite me because I will hijack the game to tell them about Dark Conspiracy and how modern doesnt quite get it for me. I just loved how combat could get so lethal in that game.

Also, I should ask. What company produced that game and are there any editions still in print? Where would I be most likely to pick it up?

I really get tired of telling my RP gorup about this great game and not being able to show them.

The T2K property is now owned by Far Future Enterprises. I'm not sure about Dark Conspiracy.

1e Dark Conspiracy and T2K were published by Game Designer's Workshop (GDW). The system for Dark Conspiracy 1e is the same one used for T2K 2.0, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and one of the editions of Traveller (T:NE maybe?)

2e Dark Conspiracy uses the same system as T2K 2.2e (I believe - being d20 based instead of d10, otherwise basically the same). It was published by one of Ken Whitman's many now out-of-business companies (in this case, Dynasty Presentations). I have no idea who owns it currently.

I happen to have an extra copy of Dark Conspiracy 1e on my bookshelf here.

I loved Twilight 2000! Such an immersive system. Loved the combat too!

Wish I still had a copy of that game.

So buy one on e-bay. There is usually quite a bit of T2K stuff for sale there.

You could also look at my previous post and buy a copy of the 1e rules from Far Future Enterprises. If you don't mind PDF versions of books DriveThruRpg.com has all the old T2K stuff for download.

Yeah. Not only do they have the PDF for sale, they actually had the 1e boxed set as a free download a few months after they opened.

My T2K material is all held in one huge binder because the box disintegrated years ago. It contains photocopies of the shopping lists, the rule books, booklets, both vehicle guides, and one of the modules. It's a huge mess of papers.
