Building kind of slowly this season -- I blame too many plot threads to follow.

And we've definitely departed the book rails with Sansa and Littlefinger.

I'm not sure if I like what they are doing or not. Makes you wonder if this is something that's a complete departure from the books or if it's something that is planned in the next few books.

It may be a preview of what's coming in the books, [sblock]though with the Jayne Poole episode that seems unlikely.[/sblock]

That said, I think some of the shortcuts an modifications thus far are good for the story -- they are truncating some long and pointless journeys, and eliminating a host of subplots and side characters that turn out to be only incidental to the plot.

I'm wondering if the Iron Islanders will make another appearance, or if they've just been written out of the narrative at this point.
