Game session on film?

Has anyone did this before, videotape their game session and put it online? I would love to see how some people (or DM's) run their sessions. Since I'm the only one who DM's in my neck of the woods, it would be cool to see how others run a session. If there's a website or fan site where someone actually did this, or even have a webcam of their games that would totally rock!

I've never video taped a session, although i did use an audio recorder during a session once and then I transcribed it into a paper for my Creative writing class ;)

BTW I got an A for using such creativity:D

I've said before and will reiterate: I would pay cash money to watch a complete game session run by Piratecat. I suspect that I'm not alone in this regard here at the boards.

I await this opportunity with credit card in hand.

I've not done that... The most I've done is write down notes for character journals. There's this guy from Australia over on the WOTC boards who audiotaped his sessions to do the storyline he wrote for each session.

How much? If he goes to Gen Con I'm sure getting him to runa game would be easy, and plenty of people have video recorders these days.....

Is he going this year? I wasn't sure. If so then it just so happens that I'm a professional videographer. So...

1) Get Piratecat to run a game and get invited into said game.
2) Videotape the whole thing.
3) Profit!

To be honest, that's something I would consider buying! Hey, this could be the start of something. If there's a DM out there that feels he/she is good at it, maybe record a session (or short campaign) and put it on DVD.

If this was a TV show I would definately watch it!

Never done the video thing, but I did record a few sessions last year. One friend, who wasn't able to play in the game, and had never actually played D&D, was really into hearing about the sessions from her friend and girlfriend, who were. So I used my minirecorder for a few sessions so she could listen to the funny bits. she really liked it. Only problem was that we'd forget to flip the tape, and the sessions were really too long to fit one tape anyway, so she wouldn't get the whole thing.

Setting aside the fact that what people do when on film simply wouldnt' be the same as what they do off camera...

RPGs are not, imho, a spectator sport. Watching them would not be nearly so engaging as taking part in them. A goodly amount of what goes on in a session would be deadly dull to those who aren't part of the activity. Even a dedicated gamer (and perhaps especially oen who knows the rules well) would find the mechanics slow and tedious for viewing.
