'88? I remember '88. That was an awesome summer (even if it was the summer I became a human bottle rocket launcher). Nothing but work during the day and games at night. That may have been the only summer break during high school that I didn't find myself bored around August.

88? I was in the army and stationed in Panama at that point. Things were heating up between Noriega and the US, and towards the end of the summer, I ended up with a platoon of MPs sleeping right outside my bedroom door*.


* - The unit I belonged did not quarter in a normal barracks, we were quartered in an ex-mental institution, across the street from an American cemetary. The compound only had fencing on three sides and neither of the gates ever closed. The room I shared was a large room that included a large bay area between the room itself and the hall - the MPs got the bay area - the MPs hated us as we would go downtown whenever we wanted (no matter the alert level), and they were restricted to the barracks. All-in-all, a pretty fun year....
