Gaming Food

Beer is generally involved. Beer caps make great counters in a pinch too. :)

I love cooking, and game days are one of the few times I'm cooking for more than 2 people. But I'm also playing, so whatever I cook has to be done with little fuss in the cooking period (oven or crock pot).

And for desert.
Cobbler.
That's all I have to say.

Would you adopt me into your group (afternoon preferrably)? When my group shows up, I start feeling like a swarm of locus invaded.
Consider yourself an honorary member.

$5 donations are gladly accepted, but not required. ;)

For many years, when we played weekly on sunday nights, pizza was the staple. We still occasionally joke that its not a real D&D character sheet until it has pizza stains on it.

Now however, we are older, and only play once per month on Saturday afternoon/evening, the menu vary considerably

Pizza (still!)
Hot dogs
burgers
sloppy joes
lasagne
spaghetti
stuffed baked potatoes
Sub sandwiches.

We dont do store bought much anymore.

We all chip in for snacks and drinks, which usually include:
pretzles
crackers
chips (ones that don't leave grease stains or orange powder on the books)
onion dip or salsa
cookies
fruit snacks
pop
water
beer
gatorade

If we do a meal, it is usually pizza or Taco Bell. Sometimes if the weather is nice we will grill some steaks, but we play at 8 pm on fridays, so usually we don't eat until 10pm or so.

We used to share chips and cookies and other snack-type foods, but now so many of us have health issues that we have to stick to our own individual dietary needs. :(

But on birthdays we usually have cake and ice cream. :)

You name, we've done it! We can only meet once of twice a month or so, so when we meet its all day.

We've done the following:
Pizza
Subs
BBQ (grilled out)
Steaks
Itallian buffet
Mexican buffet
Pot luck
Chilli
Stew
Roasts and veggies
Burgers and fries
Hearty soups
etc, etc, etc...

We bring our own food, usually. When we used to game at my house, I supplied the food (why does the DM supply the food? That's frickin' UNFAIR, I say!), but now that we're at Squee's house, things have turned into Bring-your-own.

'course, being diabetic, I need to keep a lot of food on hand, and as the GM (who tends to move around), running a game is a lot of work. So I tend to eat a fair amount of food while playing. I usually bring about three bottles 1/2 litre bottles of diet coke, a bunch of chicken nuggets from Wendy's (they're not great, but you can eat 'em even after they're cold), a salad or two, and typically a bag of pretzels or sour cream n' bacon chips.

The rest of the group usually brings their own Wendy's food (it's the closest fast food place), although there's usually a case of donuts from Tim Horton's there, as well. The host snacks on something in his cupboard if he's hungry, and we all help ourselves to the coke in his fridge (he's cool with that).

I would *love* to do a potluck style game... but, I can't see it really working. We usually play in the living room, so if someone wanted food, they'd have to leave their seat to get it. I think a potluck only really works if the food is at the same table you're playing at. But, I dunno.

BYOM- BBQ (usually only during the summer though)

Pizza

Sodas

The wife and I have been known to make grilled roost beef Sand Witches

Lazy Onya comes up once in a while

Chips

Once in a while someone will "Go Get" fast food, or something like that, but that is seldom.

I do miss the BBQ!

I don't think you guys ever made your Roast Beef Sand Witches while I gamed with you.

When I have had good groups my wife would basically cook a huge dinner. Varied from spaghetti to chicken and mashed potatoes, to whatever the heck my wife wanted to cook and we could afford. My group occassionally contributed money, but since they were very good about bringing and sharing snacks and sodas (its what qualiified them for being a group worth cooking for) I don't think I ever asked for contributions.
