Gaming Food

College games was pizza

1990's was beer and pretzels (8am no less)

later 1990's burgers, chicken and sometimes fish. Dinner on a grill

2003 homemade pizza, spigetti / pasta dishes

Then we moved to across from a pizza place so back to pizza.

Now.... not much sharing in truth. Bring your own drink and snack. I'll share the dip with those that want to. If money suddenly did not become a problem I had planned a cake for Saturday's game. Marks two years of Creation Schema.

Originally it was pizza ... but since my wife and I moved into the new house, we have been providing an actual meal (steak and side in general) at the cost of a small fee for ingredients from the players.

Now and then we do go for pizza from the local pizza place that is fantastic.

Drinks most people enjoy water/tea/coffee so that's easy to provide.

In my 1986-90 Runequest game, we always ordered pizza. Even the time my friend Steve's grandma tried to make us buy tuna casserole from her ("I know just how much boys looooove tuna casserole. It'll only cost you $2.50 a piece!"). And because I was such a crazed information backrat, I have grease-stained gaming notes that tracked not only the progression of the campaign but that of our pizza topping selections which, in 1986, were pepperoni, mushrooms and green peppers and, by 1990, were smoked oysters, onions, feta cheese and mushrooms.

Until I moved to Toronto while on the Atkins Diet, gaming food was pretty haphazard. But my new GM, to my amazement, decided to start cooking us dinner every week using his giant slowcooking crockpot. Since then, we've been treated to low-carb beef stroganoff, jambalaya and a host of other yummy food. When I'm not on the diet, he also makes, among other things, the finest pork and beans recipe every created.

My new GM, not to be outdone, has matched John and exceeded him with a weekly dessert on top of dinner, along with such delicacies as Moussaka, Moroccan stew, barbecued lamb and bision burgers, etc.

Thanks to the two games in which I play, I am eating well (and for free -- we just have to bring the wine, 3 bottles every 4 weeks).

At my own game, I sometimes make a pinto-bean-chipotle baked dip that people seem to like a lot. But now that we're not gaming at my place, there's not so much food. Last week, I brought some excellent cheeses though; but the stilton poisoned us (it was too overripe).

orchid blossom used to do a lot of cooking back for the friday night group. She got sick of the guys arguing over what to order and taking 45 minutes of game time to decide, so she figured if the food was all ready when they got there, it would speed things up greatly.

For our monday night group, we mostly just order pizza, since we have some very picky eaters. I make sure it arrives about around when people show up, so it is there for consumption.

Occasionally orchid cooks for the monday group.

She favors crock pot meals and Rachel Ray or Alton Brown recipes.

What I can think of that she has done:
Fried breaded chicken
Meatball subs
crockpot chicken
sloppy joes
homemade pizza
soup
meatloaf

There were a lot more meals. The sloppy joes and meatball subs were a big hit with the friday group.

Tacos also went over well. I would put water in the crock pot and put it on low, then put a bowl on top with the meat in it to keep it warm. It worked long enough, since it never took long for them to finish off the meat.

Sandwhich fixins when I didn't have time to do anything else. Eggsalad a couple times, Chili, burgers and hot dogs in the summer... I think that about covers it.

I'd just like to say that I wish somebody was feeding me right now. With each post read, my pyrex full of ramen (post working the closing shift) has become less and less appetizing. It's cookie time.

We had a feast last night. Everyone brings something in my group, and so we usually have too much food.

Enchiladas
Beef kabobs
Grilled Chicken breast
Many different types of chips
Hummus
Bratwurst
all kinds of fruit

This thread's making me hungry.

We're pretty easy going with food. Sometimes our host cooks for us. Usually something simple like Tacos, bratwurst on the grill, or burgers. If not, there's usually Tortorilla chips and homemade salsa; mmm. One guy usually brings a subway sandwhich and a 12 pack of Pepsi; don't ask me why.
