Gaming in a high-trust environment

Fair enough, and I agree about the various perspectives and reasons for playing the game that people bring to the thread, but I'm not really seeing any evidence of anyone trying to tell others how they should play the game. It's just a discussion of how people play the game, what sort of group dynamic they have, and why it works for them. Doesn't seem that problematical to me.

Oh, I didn't mean to imply that I thought anyone was telling someone else how to play.

As to how problematical it is... I guess I'm just gun-shy on just about any kind of discussion like this, thanks to other places. All the "discussions" I've seen completely blow past the fact that different folks play for different reasons, and head straight into arguments about whether crunchy systems are "good" or "bad". And then things start to get ugly. :)

Most folks just don't seem to be willing to live and let live it seems. It'll be nice if this place turns out not to be twitchy like that.

Luckily, ENWorld tends to be better than most places when it comes to discussing touchy subjects.

Except 4e. And paladins. And anime. And...

Okay, most touchy subjects :)

I believe a good rule system is important to many players, regardless of the level of trust.

But, without trust, it's more likely that loopholes in rules will be abused and figuring out a fix becomes more difficult. Without trust, you will have trouble convincing a individual player in your group that his character (or his attitude) reduce the fun for others and therefore he should adjust accordingly.
