Gaming "snacks" -- ideas?

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have these peanut-butter filled pretzel nuggets my group likes to call "Tasha's Uncontrollable Hideous Gluttony".

The chocolate covered variety are better. Oh and the mint joy's deliver the bitch slap to thin mints, if it wasn't for samoas'(SP?) I wouldn't need to see another girl scout again.

One gaming group I play with has two diabetics in it. One side of the table is soda, brownies, chips and the other side is water and Salsa w/chips or chef salads.

I have found that when I have water and chips & salsa/veggies that I am much more alert and run a better game than when I have soda, pizza and sweets. Interestingly enough, I find that I have soda, pizza and sweets more often, though. I guess that the short-term enjoyment outweighs the long-term benefits (like many other aspects of life - dieting, exercising, investing, etc.).

Beer & Pretzels.

the only way to game.

How can one plan the ulitmate uber combat against the BBEG without a frosty cold one in their hand?

As for staying awake.....I hit off the old school crack pipe has been known to do wonders  Of course YMMV

Frank recommends an entire plate of chocolate muffins. He's looking for a new group - or so we hear.
Oh good Lord... *smacks forehead*

I like to be able to eat while I game, so greasy, messy foods are out of the question, as are any with powder that will rub off on the fingers (Cheetos, Lays potato chips). Pretzel sticks and root beer is my preferred choice, for religious reasons. No, silly, not anti-alcohol religion. Pro-root beer religion. :p

As a hypoglycemic with an aversion to caffeine, most of my energy boosts come from protein. When snacking, I prefer brownies with a lot of nuts baked in. A lot of fun to bake if you're into cooking, and unless there's a nut allergy in the group, it should go over well.

I'll throw in with the healthier food crowd - this month marks the anniversary of me ending up in the hospital thanks to a steady diet of junk food. Eating healthier doesn't mean giving up flavor, it just means making alternative choices - chicken breasts, lean pork and ground turkey're all excellent substitutes for the meat eaters out there.

One particularly cheap and filling snack I've found are the generic pre-baked pizza crusts you can find at the local grocery stores. Not Boboli (expensive!), but Boboli knockoffs. A single pack typically contains two crusts, which is plenty for snacking. I usually do up one meat pizza (turkey sausage with low fat pepperoni) and a chopped fresh spincah and cheese 'snacker', with no sauce. Tasty and cheap.

Besides food, another thing that's good for keeping you alert is aromatherapy. There are two routes for this.

Or....

You can just combine the 2 by serving various undercooked bean products.

That way, you can give your players that 'Old World Sewer' Smell.

:Edit: If you are a smoker, you might want to watch lighting up if the gaming area isn't well ventilated.

Best thing I've found is a nap. Lay yourself down in a quiet, comfortable, dimly light place for no more than 20 minutes. Lay quietly and relax. Your body will get a nice cat-nap (even if you don't fall asleep). Don't try to nap for an hour, or you'll go into true sleep and will be drowsy upon waking.

And as far as snacks go, I agree with the fruit/veggie/trail mix crowd.
