Gaming W/Jemal: Planar Quest IC (Prologue)

"It also implies all other races were created by the Gods," mentions Ur. Which is a comforting thought, but, "Why then can their creation wield the Power if they cannot?" A... deliberate feature of the design?

"Wade," Mei Ying said, "We are fumbling in the dark. I think the answers to all our questions are one and the same. Who came before titans and gods? Why can this strange power be wielded only by those who are not divine? What exactly IS this power? Will you tell us these things?"

"Because you wanted to have fun with us?" Mei-Ying hazards with a touch of asperity.
Wade stops his muttering and looks at the woman "That does sound like me.."
"Your words are too kind, might I inquire, how is that you know so much of Tutek, Forger of the Alliance?" The ogre questions.
"A Simple Exchange of information. I told you, knowledge must be earned. I traded a small portion of what I know of history to William and Darrian in exchange for them keeping me updated on current events. And much of that was about you fellows."
"And that would be...?" Tutek asks. "Indeed, if those were the original races, the Titams must have took the power from something, either a conscious entity of greater power or some place which hold it before them." The ogre elaborates, agreeing with Mei Ying
"Wade," Mei Ying said, "We are fumbling in the dark. I think the answers to all our questions are one and the same. Who came before titans and gods? Why can this strange power be wielded only by those who are not divine? What exactly IS this power? Will you tell us these things?"

He looks around as everybody starts asking questions, and raises a hand to stop them "Too many. The deal was one question, one answer. Many of your questions about the Power will be answered if you pass the test, but before that, you get a single question for beating my game... Ah, but you are so close.." Wade stops, his face transforming into a troubled visage as he wrestles with himself.
"Bah, very well. A short story before the test, instead of the single answer!" His 'happy face' returns, and he sits on the stage, his stubby legs not reaching the ground, their movement swinging slowly back and forth giving him a somewhat childish appearance.

"The First Race.. I couldn't tell you their true name. Nobody speaks of them anymore. Yet everybody knows of them: You see them each night, as you gaze longingly into the sky, you look upon their remains, those twinkling lights so far away. There are many myths about how the stars came to be, but the truth is known to very few. The Stars themselves were once alive.

In the beginning, the three races each had their own unique advantages - The gods had their divine spark; Titans had their creativity, ingenuity; And the eldest of the three, the Stars, they held another Power, the will of the Universe. The three spread about the planets.. sorry, you call them Planes these days.. and sowed life. They each created a few races, but those of the Stars outshone those of the Titans and Gods. Eventually, the Titans rebelled against the Stars, assaulting them with their technology. The Gods watched the fight, and chose their side - they sided with the Stars, combining their Divine Spark with the Universal Power. It ended badly. The Titans were able to finish off the Stars, as well as most of their creations while the Gods wrestled with the magics that were unleashed. By the time the Gods had stopped their magics from destroying them, the Titans had consolidated their power. But the Gods were clever, they continued to sow life, and grow in power, until they could challenge and defeat the Titans, and proclaim themselves the rulers of the Universe. Admittedly, this is second hand, I was only present for the finale. My kind were created during the end days of the war, long after the Stars had died."

Gerard takes down a chair from a stack and sits in it listening to the tale Wade has for them. When the ivory man is finished he asks, "So,just out of curiosity, What was the purpose of your kind being created? It seems to me the Titans never create something without a purpose."

after a moment of contemplation he asks with a smirk, "Or do I need to earn this information?"

"The gods created life," Mei-Ying mused. "The titans created...a different kind of life. Maybe to fight. Maybe to remember. Does anyone know the purpose of their own making?"

Images whirl in Ur's dwarven mind, awakened by the Golem's prosaic words... It must have been a titanic conflict -- a whole series of them. What would a living star look like? (Difficult to see a creature's shape just from its bones. And if your bones are a point of light...) How did the Titans fight such foes? Especially outnumbered as they were, judging by the number of 'corpses' shining in Rauland's night sky... Or were they dismembered and tossed out into the heavens? Each a sparkling constellation...?

When the ivory man is finished Gerard asks, "So, just out of curiosity, What was the purpose of your kind being created? It seems to me the Titans never create something without a purpose."
A very good question, silently agrees Ur as Gerard speaks. His eyes and body focus on the Titan spawn, attentive.

Braham ponders the history the group is being told. Stars? I wonder where the book of power comes in to the story ... but one question at a time.

As the information sets in Gerard simply says, "Star are, er, were beings. " He is not grasping the revelation of the cosmos at this time. Definitely a struggle for him.

A rattleling sound comes from off to the side. Darrian stands behind a small counter that appears to have been part of the wall. Behind him in an exposed opening are a few shelves of bottles, in his hands a shiny metal container. He continues to shake it for a few moments before pouring the contents into a glass. Should any one look in his direction he waves them back saying

"Don't mind me. I've heard this before, you go on. It looks like you find this more interesting then I ever did." he then turns back to his impromptu bar. If any one appoches him he'll serve them a random drink.
