Gaming W/Jemal: Planar Quest IC (Prologue)

"Hm." As nobody seems to have further knowledge on this, Ur simply places that block on the growing pile of 'not yet connected to anything'. "And it still leaves the mystery of how they got it there." The Key itself doesn't seem able to move on its own. Maybe the room does. Or they pushed it into the Madness like a raft...

No other thought come to mind, so the tattooed dwarf crosses his bare arms over the waterfall of his beard and waits, looking to the others for his lead.

OOC: Going out in the field monday and tuesday, so expect slower posting during that time, if at all. :) Back on Wednesday, folks!

"We should take this one step at a time, I suppose" Braham muses. "But it seems to me that the main obstacle right now is that once we get to this Far Plane, we will have no idea where to go. No clue what to do. We need a path to follow, not just a destination. Planes are big ... bigger than our home world, maybe. Lots of square miles. Perhaps another scroll can help with that. Something will have to."

"Very well. I will." Braham takes a scroll, visualizing the images Mei had talked about and shown them. He begins to decipher the scroll. When he's sure he's ready he begins. "The way to the Far Realms Key ..."

Mei-Ying gives Braham a long-suffering look, but lets him have the scroll.

Truth be told, she had to admit a different perspective might be useful on so important an issue.

(OOC - Hehe, sorry about the delay. My Subscriptions have apparently stopped working. I'll keep an eye on the thread itself from now on. :))

Braham begins reading the scroll, and the whispers return with darkness, once more coalescing into a shout and a shriek as the darkness lifts, and the sound is silenced. He suddenly straightens as the floating disk of smoke above him extends a beam of light down. His eyes glaze over for a moment, and then the light and smoke both dissipate, but his experience seems even more draining than hers, and he falls to his knees.

[sblock=Braham's Vision]
Braham sees an illithid, and a conversation though remembers no words. Then the world melts away and is replaced with a shifting plane of endless madness.
A face appears before him, an indescribably hideous visage that drains the blood from his face. Tentacles reach out to wrap around his throat and the abomination reels him close, accompanied by a sibilant hissing that he somehow understands. It describes in detail over what seems like hours, an intricately ordered chaos. He cannot fathom how he could ever repeat or impress this knowledge upon another without driving both himself and the listener insane.

Once it is finished hissing, it disappears and he finds himself following the directions - but they are not those directions that one would normally give. Not 'up/down, left/right, go three miles...' The path involved being in a specific frame of mind, giving in to certain emotions at certain times, reacting properly to one of a number of possible encounters, and performing mystic rituals.

The journey is like an intricately detailed memory, and once it is over, he finds a platform rising from the ground. On it, he sees a fearsome beast, covered in pitch-black chitin, which leaps at him, causing him to awaken without a clear memory of it's appearance, only that while the first hideous face had been maddening, the second beast was the most dreadful he'd ever seen.
[/sblock]

It is one of the most shocking experiences of his life, and once it is over, only then does Braham realize that he did not notice any details of his surroundings during the journey..

Braham stands up, and stretches a bit, checking to make sure he hasn't lost any obvious body parts.

"It was strange" he tells the others. "At first it was like I was somehow communicating with an illithid. Telepathic I guess. I wonder if it's a real creature, who will remember us. If so, it knows we're coming.

Then ... the shifting, mad plane. Chaos. A monster - with tentacles - it described something to me. Nothing that I can clearly remember, or could explain if I did. Directions of a sort, I think, but more about emotions and mental reactions than physical. And rituals. A long journey. Then ... a big monster, black and shiny and nasty looking. It jumped at me ... That's all I can remember.

Perhaps when we get to the Far Plane, I'll remember what to do. I can't be sure of that, but I see no other choice but to try.

We should beef up our defenses against mental and physical attack, if we can."

OOC: For the record, the first face was obviously an Illithid, but the second was more Eldritch/Cthulhian indescribable horror, definitely not an Illithid, or any other creature Braham knows of.
Also to save time, From description, D'raven recognizes the Illiithid as the one he was going to speak with about getting to the far realm.
