Gaming W/Jemal: Planar Quest IC (Prologue)

Jemal said:
...and then the light and smoke both dissipate, but his experience seems even more draining than hers, and he falls to his knees.
The dwarf is there by his side, callused hand warm on his shoulder, ready to absorb his pain... But Braham seems to be handling it well, whatever it was.

"Signposts of emotions," ponders Ur after Braham has described it has best he can. He finds the idea... intriguing. A pause. "Or is it legs of emotion?" This is sounding more and more like a quest *literally* through the mind of an insane entity of some sort, jumping from thought to thought, aiming for an ill-defined concept floating just beyond sight... "Write all you can remeber about the path, before it fades like a dream?" he suggests to the desert man.

Braham shakes his head. "No my friend, I cannot. To try to do so, would be to lock in place the imprecision of words to describe such things as emotions. The text would crowd out the nuances. Yet in the proper context, I think I will know what to do."

A rather prolonged silence...

"We're tired," concludes Ur before nodding good night in his usual abbreviated manner and taking his leave towards his assigned quarters for the night. Tomorrow is the visit to the brain-eater, then probably planning and gathering supplies for the journey into madness. Might even get to dive right in if they're efficient enough about it...

He does slow as he passes Mei Ying: "The dome was a good plan," he says softly, dark eyes sympathetic before moving on and then out.

OOC: And I'm back!

I suggest we move on to tomorrow right now, since this scene doesn't seem to be grabbing everybody's attention?

"Good night my friends. Sleep well." I doubt I will, Braham thinks as he heads to bed. Since he doesn't need much sleep thanks to his ring, he'll spend the rest of the time exploring D'Raven's complex.

Gerard watches the others and notices Braham is not headed to the quarters, and not needing but 2 hours himself, he will follow Braham to practice his stealthyness.

ooc: Braham could not make that spot check, but I would think he would notice Gerard due to his blindsense. I'll let Jemal comment before posting IC.

The remainder of the night passes relatively uneventfully.. Gerard and Braham spend much of it exploring, while the others get a much more restful sleep than they had expected.
In the morning, William wakes those who are late sleepers and gathers the group to visit the Illithid.

Ur seems rather deep in thought, and Darrian seems somewhat perturbed, glancing at Ur occasionally.

"Alright, kids" William coughs "remember these Brain-sucker's are old and cunning, and unless you're Protected, assume they're trying to get into your head." He stops in front of Darrian, straightening the young mans collar.
"And for Raven's sake, don't mention lunch!"
The old man sighs and crosses his arms, looking at you. "Alright, off with you lot then, I'll hold down the fort."

With that, the group ventures out of the compound, into the Bazaar itself.
From this angle, it looks like any other merchant crossing, though it stretches as far as anybody can see in all directions. Tents and stalls line the pathways, interspersed among other more permanent seeming structures: Stone and wood buildings, Shacks, Towers, complexes like Darrian's.. After several minutes of walking, they pass buildings and stalls selling more than they could have guessed, and many products whose use they couldn't - or in some cases, didn't want to - imagine.
Most of the larger, more permanent buildings don't appear to be 'selling' anything, one in particular rises a hundred feet and appears to be made of nothing but glass. Through the clear walls, they see figures moving about in odd suits carrying papers. The sign out front says "Wolfram and Heart", and there is a good 10 foot clearing around it: No stalls, shacks, or anything - A seeming oddity, as the only open space they've seen thus far has been for traffic. The place practically radiates evil magical vibes.

Fortunately, the Mind Flayer that Darrian is leading them to is relatively close, and it only takes about 20 minutes of walking through the endlessly confusing, twisting streets before they arrive at an odd circular building. It appears to be a Mithril Saucer, 60 feet in diameter, resting on the ground with no apparent foundations. There is a metalic ramp leading up to an open doorway, and the sign above says in various languages "Savant Neurosciences"

OOC:
Kinem's double negative confused me for a sec. "He could not not make that spot check, but I would think Braham would notice Gerard due to his blindsense. I'll let Jemal comment before posting IC". Since Gerard's Perception is only +14, I assume it was just an accidental 'extra not'. Gerard does not see Braham following him, and since they know each other, Braham knows to stay out of his blind sense range.

If Either of you wants to look through D'raven's character sheet at what he's got in the complex.

UR: I will be finishing the response to your PM's soon.

ALL: Is there anything you would like to do/investigate/buy before heading into the Illithid Lab? Also, will you be dealing with him or DEALING with him? ;)

The ogre ask around if there are any magical protection against mind reading and mind altering effects. He had much experience with the Ogre magi doing nasty things to his brain, he didn't want squid-faced aliens from another dimension adept at doing that to probe his mind.

ooc: Edited post #417 for clarity.

ooc: I thought we were letting D'Raven and his people deal with the illithid while concealing the rest of our group's involvement. I assume D'Raven could accomplish this by sending servants who know nothing to deliver sealed messages, or by whatever other method he typically would use.

Braham too asks about the Protection William speaks of. In effect, he will become interested in obtaining Mind Blank protection, whether by spells or (if need be since they are expensive) scrolls, but more for the Far Realm than for meeting an illithid he has no intention of meeting.
