[GC] Ikaruga, you owe it to yourself to play this game

First Post
First off some reviews are here, the one titled Ikarumba!! is a joke review.

It's an old school space shooter, e.g. Raiden, R-type, Grdaius, of the Vertical variety.

Warning! the game is difficult, even on easy, but it's not cheap about it, it just expects a lot out of you. However it gives you plenty of ways to improve.

The first thing it does is give you an extra continue for every hour of play time and after seven you get unlimited continues.

The two options for improving are practice mode and conquest mode. Whenever you make it to a new chapter without continuing it is unlocked in both modes. Practice mode allows you to play through any unlocked stages in their entirety with unlimited continues and the ability to restart it whenever you choose.

Conquest is similar to practice mode but it divides each chapter into smaller sections. For each stage you have three options Demo, Slow, and Normal. Demo shows a (near) perfect run through the stage at slow speed so you can get an idea of what strategy to use for it (apparently these change depending on what screen setting you have it set too, haven?t tried it myself). Slow allows you to practice that one or develop your own, and normal allows you to try that out at the normal game speed.

So unless you?re totally unwilling to work at getting better I suggest you give the game a try.

Oh and the [GC] in the subject is short for Gamecube. The game was also release for the Dreamcast in Japan, but the cube version has more extras.

Not another Gamecube game that I'll have to buy. There are just too many good games coming out lately.

I plan on picking up Ikaruga soon. I had been looking forward to it for quite a few months, but I need to wrap up a few other games first.

There are a ton of games coming on the 'Cube that I'm really anticipating.

F-Zero GC , StarFox Armada , Mario Kart: DD and a bunch others are all being shown at E3. Mario Golf will be out June 30th, and I'm sure Mario Tennis won't be out much later than that, either.

Metroid Prime 2 is said to be shown in video form at E3.

Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and FF Tactics Advance are both set for release this year, I believe.

A Custom Robo title (the series never made it to the states, but it looks awesome) is rumored to show up at E3, along with a GC Earthbound (Earthbound 1 & 2 are being ported to the GBA).

Factor 5 (Of Rogue Squadron fame) is putting together a new Pilotwings game, licensed to them by Nintendo. In the meantime, Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel Strike looks to breath new life into the series, with land based missions, both in vehicles (like speeder bikes on Endor) and on foot (like Luke taking down the AT-AT on Hoth with a saber and a thermal detonator), along with co-op and competitive play, including all the original RS2 missions as extras. This should also be ready for a holiday release.

And yesterday it was revealed that Miyamoto, Kojima, and the Silicon Knights team have been working on a revamped exclusive of Metal Gear Solid, dubbing it MGS: Twin Snakes, featuring updated graphics, MGS2 control and gameplay, and a few extras, slated for November.

There's more than that coming, as well, far too much to list, but the future is looking sweet.

To that I say: BAH!

Seriously though, it being a shooter the time investment per sitting is low (the biggest factor in preventing me from finishing a game), so if you only have a few minutes tp play then this fits the bill.

Hah, made you do all the hard work! Yes, the reason I posted the Gamefaqs link was so I didn't have to go searching for multiple reviews and posting links for them.

S'alright. I had been following Ikaruga for awhile, so I've read most of the impressions/previews/reviews out there. I never mind pimping (or helping someone pimp out) out a good game that may go unappreciated.

Tell me about it. I now have four games that I need to complete before I can buy any new ones. I've been working in the same building for 2.5 years, and I just last week discovered that there's an EB right next door. I've been buying too many games. What can I say? They actually had a copy of Skies of Arcadia, I just couldn't pass it up...

My wife and I have nearly finished the new Zelda. Tony Hawk 4 is a rolling target. Splinter Cell was a 'nearly finished', and then I got frustrated at one point and lent it out. Bomberman and Mario Party are group games, AFAIC. Robotech and Halo are on an 'as I can get time' basis. I haven't even picked up The Two Towers or any of several other games, either.

And of course, then there's the GBA SP. I'm halfway through Advance Wars, nearly finished with Eye of the Beholder and Castlevania, and my wife is playing Dungeondice Monsters.

Phew.

Talk about a embarassment of riches.
