I spoke with Alex over at Mongoose about this. Apparently their rep didn't make it back from the Middle East on time, and everybody else was scheduled elsewhere.

Sorry, but I don't completely buy this excuse since right before the ceremony I saw Alex in the lounge of the Hyatt drinking beers. If they choose to participate next year in the auction, I hope they feel the awards are important enough make sure someone is there to represent them rather than just throwing the guy a bone to make him happy as an afterthought. At least another British-based publisher had the kindness to make the guy feel welcome and valued.

Technically, these aren't the convention so I wasn't sure if I should. I looked for a way to create a sub-folder but didn't see one (didn't look long, admittedly). Besides, these all fit into the "Good" category for the subject of this thread, even if I don't strictly adhere to the format of labeling them so. Given it's the Internet, I'm sure someone else will oblige us with balance soon enough in the form of equal parts "Bad" and "Ugly"...

Incidentally, I'll just add this last shot of another statue/fountain out back, on the Canal Walk side, of the museum...

That'd be a great idea. I noticed there are a number of parks that branch off from the canal at various points. One of the closest to the convention center, about a half block south of the intersection of Ohio and New York Avenues, is Military Park, within lies a rustic pavillion that could easily be used for a eight table tournament game or picnic. It might require a permit of some sort to secure it but the heavily-varnished, split-log table with attached benches are there . . . and they don't appear to be going anywhere . . . without a crane.

I was sweating a little bit when I wrote that since I knew someone would call me on it if I said Morrus when I meant Morris or vice-versa.

Picnic-N-Gaming at the Park, GenCon '06 sounds like a great idea. We need to have the park reserved, of course (crosses fingers that this is something doable - and that next summer is cooler than this summer).

We could ask that everyone bring a dish to pass (now that we know where the grocery store is) or chip in to cover the cost of the reservation. We could eat and have some gaming fun. I would even be willing to make my GenCon DMing premier at this event.

I'm willing to help if needed.

You were running a game at the table next to us when the security guard walked through the room and looked at every table to make sure everyone had a badge. Ethernaut didn't have his, so he kicked him out of the room and said he'd be back a bit later to make sure Tim had really gone to get his from the hotel. After he left to run back to the hotel, Der_Kluge said "Hey, he already knows Shemeska has a badge, we should just borrow his for Tim to use when he comes back to check on it."
