GEN CON Registration

I just read over at the Gen Con forums that people are in fact getting badges and hotel rooms (or at least they still were last night, after the delay had been posted). Anyone here able to confirm/deny what's happening, or perhaps to guide a weary soul as to how he might acquire a badge as others are apparently doing?

I can confirm that if you added your badge to your cart, and then got the "2004" error it may still be there waiting for you to purchase. Mine was when I loggged into my account this morning. Once I purchased, I was able to get my hotel reservation.

I cant wait for event registration - will GenCon pay for carpal tunnel surgery from repeated logon attempts :)

I guess the hotels have figured out they can make a lot of money. When I went in '03, the Marriot charged us just over $120 per night. Now their rate is $304 a night.

The Embassy Suites only has single king rooms available (no double beds) and the Best Western is booked. Fortunately, I have a reservation at the Hampton Inn. Now, I just need to see if my friend I went with in '03 is planning on going or not. If not, I'll need to find a roommate. :)

Indeed. This is quite irritating, though last year they converted both our single rooms to double rooms on-site. Perhaps they will again this year.

Embassy Suites, here we come.

Yes but the thing about the Embassy is that the front room of the suite has a hide a bed.

Thus, if you are just 2 people who are not sleeping with each other, you still only need a king. If you are three, then you get the doubles.

Aaron.

Sure. GenCon LLC shut down badge and event registration until later today. Unfortunately, they didn't consider the fact that everyone would still attempt to checkout. So, anyone who hadn't cleared their cache still had items in their shopping card.

Additionally, someone could jump directly to the page to order badges, and could still do so (despite the fact that they removed the link from the main login page).

Since then, they have removed any possibility of registering for both badges and hotels.

Exactly, the couch is a pull-out bed. With a king and a pull-out, you could stuff 4-5 friendly folks into the room and with sleep space. If you're friendly. :)

Then I must have *just* snuck in. I read this thread at about 9am Central Time; I had indeed managed to get my badge into my shopping cart before I'd encountered problems yesterday, so I was indeed able to finish buying my badge then, and got the hotel passcode (which yielded a room at the Westin).

I suspect at least part of the reason people get frantic over the rooms is a holdover from the Milwaukee days...in which there were only a few hotels near the Midwest Express Center, and those sold out in hours.
